umm someone one already posted this like two topics down and i think you two are the only slipknot fans on the board
tell you the same thing i told him, pick up fear factory "archetype" and support the band that invented this whole sing-scream genre of metal.
they still do it best and thats without a doubt the best metal album thats coming out this year, last year, or next year by an american band
for some reason we cant build opeth or meshuggah level inventive metal bands anymore.
we made godflesh and fear factory and everyone since then has been mindless horrible shit.
slipknot is a fucking gimmick with no talent. they made a few decent songs, but on the whole, are still just a fucking korn-metal band.
i agree with alot of the things you post, but im saying support a real band and buy archetype
damn that album is fucking tight.

Hey yeah, I would LOVE to see some GWAR again. Great show.....and Junkie, I agree Fear Factory and Meshuggah are both great metal bands, but not everyone likes the same shit. And why bother posting not once, but TWICE on a Slipknot thread? WTF?! Why dont you go post a Fear Factory thread and talk about what you are interested in? And as far as KORN-style? Please.....Korn sucks dick(in my OWN PERSONAL OPINION)...but I have been a fucking maggot since 98, and as a faithful loyal fan, I just felt like creating a thread for Slipknot, seeing that the big one is coming(and I hope not to be let down) out this month. And hoping to hear insight from others who were interested, rather than having people bitch and complain about a music group they claim to despise, yet can't stop talking about.

now, now....
I just can't see how anyone can diss slipknot. They are a great band. I love the new song...and can't wait for the new album!
I highly respect JC's opinions, don't get me wrong
(and agree with alot of what he says) But, Slipknot are *not* a "gimmick" band. And, I don't understand how anyone can say they have no talent. Please, elaborate
I never once thought of comparing them with Korn, either.
And, now, now.....Slipknot is a REAL band, Mr.! Tsk, Tsk!

Yeah, Junkie doesn't like the whole "gimmick" thing, yet he enjoys most of the Darkness album....now THAT is a gimmick and a half! Sure, let's all cash in on the retro 80's comeback fad! And The Darkness over SLIPKNOT?! Junkie, are you STONED?!

I think any band that wears masks or clown makeup has to suck ass. That includes slipknot, manson, icp, hell, I even think KISS sucks ass.
But, thats just me...I like my music without the whole "shock" appeal.
I think that Junkie has pretty damn good taste in music for the most part, I have only disagreed with him a few times.
The Darkness....I personally think their music is great...and whatever gimmick they might have just adds to it.

Me, personally, I prefer a band to have an "image". It adds to the entertainment value for me.
But, a band can't be ALL image. Their music, of course, is the most important thing.
I honestly don't see how any fan of heavier music cannot say that Slipknot is not a talented band, though.
I think alot of people (and, I'm not referring to Junkie, or anyone here, just alot of people I've dealt with in the heavier music world) don't give bands like slipknot a chance. And, it's a shame. I hear alot of these people saying that slipknot sucks....but have never even listened to them, or gave them a chance.
It goes back to the whole, well, the kids sure do love these music acts, and the kids in general are annoying, so the band must be too. Or, then you have the people that are too good to listen to, or give a chance to a mainstream band, just because they feel they have something to prove.
In the case of Manson, you have all of these people who were fans in the early days....and, once Manson was mainstream, they turned their backs on him....because it was the thing to do....I will never understand the BS around all this. It's silly.
Wow, didn't mean to write an essay here...sorry
Just been visiting metalsludge.com alot lately, and the gossip board always gets me riled up....all the holier than thou metal fans....grrrrr!

As far as Slipknot goes, I was a fan before I ever even knew they wore masks. Then I saw them, and was like"FUCK YES!", because I like the larger than life persona of a band rather than Mr. Joe Shitinarag standing onstage with jeans and a t-shirt(Kurt Cobain being a big exception). I love KISS and Manson for the same reason....(but I can't stand Ignorant Clown Pussies)....beause they have music I enjoy and at the same time, their image is kewl. And I have been a Manson fan since Portrait and never turned my back cuz i was so into the music and enjoyed watching him evolve and grow, and fully understood his concept with M3chan1cal An1mal5, knowing the "sellout-popstar Omega"was simply a character like the Antichrist Superstar. But...anyway.....I just can't stand to listen to some guy yodeling like Tiny Tim to 80's style cheese rock."Touching you---hooOOOOOOOOooo...."PLEASE, SHOOT IT B4 IT MULTIPLIES!!!!!"The Darkness are fucking gay, and are a fad that won't last.......But retro rock CAN be good. For example, JET. I love em! Ah well, everyone's opinion is different anyway, so let's just zippit......and SHOCK?! What exactly IS shock, hmm?-----"Rock is deader than dead.....shock is all in your head...."

I LOVE Tiny Tim! Don't say bad things about that talented dead man when he can't defend himself...Because he's dead
Girl, by Tiny Tim and the Brave Combo receives my highest endorsement.

I just want to say that
A) I have never, and will never be a fan of Manson. Never owned *any* of his cd's.
B) I want to make a couple T shirts:
1) "I was a fan of Kurt Cobain when he was still ALIVE
or
2) I had "Nevermind" on cassette
hehehe

Ms. Buttercup....you crack me up!!!
Heheh...I was discussing just the other day how Nirvana seemed to gain LOTS more fans after Kurt died. I mean....there are all kinds of kids today running around weariing shirts w/kurt on them saying how depressed they get on the anniversary of Kurts death!
It kills me....if you are like, well, you are pretty young, do you even remember when he died, of course they don't.
I had nevermind on cassette too. Heheh.
But, I guess I shouldn't diss the kids. Some are into it not because its the cool thing to do now, but because once they became a certain age they discovered Nirvana, and it had the same effect on them as it did on me. Hmmm.
I love Tiny Tim.
And, I love the Darkness.
I love Slipknot, Manson, and ICP.

I STILL have my Nevermind cassette, too! LOL.....and my cassettes of Bleach, Incesticide, In Utero, etc. Back then, when that bastard was still alive, I WAS the depressed anxiety hormonal teen. And then my new rockstar idol up and blows his fucking brains out. Yeah, sure did me a lot of good....hard to believe it's been a decade since all that shit went down. Damnit, I am starting to feel old.....time flies, and then your dead and rotting.

Nonono...
Courtney Love blew his fucking brains out. I enjoyed Bleach, that was a great album, but was much more into other Subpop Amrep bands like Mudhoney, Tad, Melvins, and, yes, even Soundgarden. After Nevermind hit like ballbusters, it seemed to derail any attention those other bands had gained, although Soundgarden did manage to pull itself up into the spotlight long enough to lose all originality and become just another shit pop rock band
I will say that Nirvana greatly redeemed themseles in my eyes with In Utero - their best in my opinion. Damn shame he had to go out like that and so young. What makes it so sad is that guys like he, Nick Drake, and Ian Curtis left the world with so much unanswered potential. At least all left classic testimony of their amazing talents.

i still have most of my Nirvana shit.
in utero was a fucking landmark album if ever there was one.
Bleach was fucking amazing too.

Ok, here goes...
I'm not going to attack anyone over their personal opinions. If you like or don't like Slipknot...whatever...I gives no fucks. But to attack a band, therefore attacking the people who thouroughly enjoy these bands, is much like attacking them personally. It is near to the same as attacking their religious beliefs, or their culture. As far a Slipknot having no talent, I would like to see any group of people have that much technique, showmanship, cohesion, energy, & pure joy that they get on stage. Now personally, I'm not an official maggot, so nobody think they can tear me down with this, but I think Slipknow is on of the greatist fucking bands out there right now, I hate to see them go. Now, Junkie, if you want a little lecture on them, I'm not here for that. Nor am I here to attack you. So please don't be offened by anything I say here. It is merely my opinion, & I am voicing it, much like you did yours. With that said.
1.) Messugah is one of the shittist bands I have ever heard. I have also seen them with Tool live...sucked then to. If you want to play Music Inqusition, point you finger at them. They have geven a generation the ok to suck-and-sell.
2.) About Slipknot having things handed to them( this is hear-say, so it may be ignoreable), four words..."Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat."
3.) And about that "gimmick" thing...strong words coming from the biggist Misfits fan I've ever known!
Now, Junkie, I'm not calling you a lier, a hypocrite, or anything, just friendly opposition. That's all.
So what we've learned here today is...
Fiends=Maggots
People=Shit

Abreeskye,Ravenheart,Spookwhore thank you for supporting my case while I couldn't. Junkie this is simply a matter of opinion. No need to get all bent out of shape. People make music. Inevitably people will make music you don't like. Deal, get over, etc.
Mate,Feed,Kill,repeat
People=Shit
And you most certainly cannot see California without Marlon Brando's eyes

I love Mike Patton's voice, and though I've heard some Mr. Bungle, I've never even seen a picture of them. What to they wear?
I'd love to see GWAR too. I bet their music isn't great, but the show is phenomenal from what I've heard.
