Helter Skelter

Ok, So I just watched the 70's version of Helter Skelter. I'm a psych major and I'd heard of Charles Manson, but I didn't know the actual story. So now I know. But can anyone fill me in on what's happened since the 70's. I know he's still in jail. And I know that the "X" he carved in his head is now a swastica (sp), but what about the girls that were in jail? What about the rest of the "manson family?" Any clues? And all the other people they claimed to have killed? I'm just really interested. I guess it's mostly from a psychological perspective, but also because I'm just a very curious person. Any ideas? :spam:

I once did a research paper on Manson and found some interesting facts.

All the girls and Tex Watson have been paroled. Manson himself i beleive has been denied parole 8 times (he'll die in jaill). He has been in and out of jail since he was 12. He even sodimised a young boy when he was in a juvenile detention facility. And well when I was doing my research I found a Manson Familly Web site, so their still going strong.

All of it is a pretty sick situation, but still a very interesting case story. Hope that was helpful.

Its called google.
I found 90% of the articles ive read and books ive read on Manson in my life also in electronic format on the net.
But i promise you, the more you research, the more it seems the government allowed it to happen
its called the fear effect.

I don't know of any of the manson family having been parolled yet. As of 2002, the records on CrimeLibrary said they were all still serving life terms. I do know that even if Manson ever got out, Sharon Tates mother has a price on his head.

Jeepers...How'd I miss this. No Manson familiy members have been paroled and it is very unlikely to ever happen. You can't have your boogeymen running free can you?

Not that life in prison is necessarily what they deserve. He was never convited or killing anyone and what people did under his (supposed, and likely) direction was done under the influence of heavy lsd stimulation and social brainwashing. I've got some great videos of chuck and the girls during the heydays at the Spahn Ranch. Cookoo! Cookoo! But, as mentioned in House of 1000 Corpses, "Some of those Manson girls are hot." It was a drugged out commune where Manson was high priest and the outside world was seen as worthless.

The most recent interviews I have seen (several years ago) with the ladies at their latest parole hearings showed Patrica Krinwinkle as a woman remoreseful for what she had done and resigned to the fact that she will never ever be released from prison. Much sadder was Van Houten who was trying so hard to convince the board that she had reformed, had a job and a life waiting for her...Never gonna happen.

What's prison about anyway? Punishment or rehabilitation? Why one for some and the other for the rest? Manson is nuttier than ever, but he belonged in an institution, not the prison system that made him what he is. The women have served longer sentences for murders committed under the influence than many, are remorseful and rehabilitated...Except for Squeeky. Then again, if we let her out she might do us all a favor and try to kill another president!

Thanks

I've checked out some of the stuff I've found on google junkie, but I'm just getting started. Like I said, I've only just watched the movie about a week ago. For some reason Manson has become very interesting to me, so I think I'm gonna follow through, in my spare time, and see what I can dig up. You know, just for laughs. Hmm....oh well, anything else you guys unearth would be much welcomed.

thanks AG

LOL...when I read someones earlier post I thought, "paroled manson family members?? what are they smokin'??" but I was trying to be nice.

I used to wear a shirt in Junior high with Mansons face from Time magazine on the cover and one of my teachers said, "Morgan, don't you know he killed people brutally, blah blah blah". And I think I replied something like, "actualy he didn't kill anyone in the Tate Labianca Murders, he just had them do it for him...that was his evil genius" to which I just got a stare...LOL.

The girls are now old librarian looking ladies for the most part...I think they should be let out.

Last I heard on Tex was that he had started a ministry and was married with a couple kids through those "conjugal visits" or what have you...

My mom has a copy of the record he recorded, and I have a copy of the book "Helter Skelter" that has certain chapters I believe that were taken out in later additions....:D

Buttah, its statements like this that make me once again regain my ideas of your complete fucking coolness

I still like the 20/20 interview that one of the chicks did....i think a survivor...i'm not really sure...its blurry right now.....but i know Rob Zombie chopped it up and used it on an old White Zombie song from Astro Creep....."I just rememeber her saying....you're already dead"..good stuff

the manson interview that...i THINK geraldo did ( i could be wrong, its too early and my brain hasn't woke up yet) Anyway its featured in some movie (again can't think) and if you can find the entire interview, its really....a great piece of madness on tape....

True, Charlie never did anything, he just gave the chicks the cock, and made them love him....so much infact that they totally FUCKED some people up....to boot he speaks wonderfully, when i was doing my whole evil genious gimmick in wrestling, i was stealing stuff from interviews i could find with him.....its all just...marvelous brainiac at work......good stuff.[/quote]

it's definately interesting to hear him speak, but i don't know if i would call it great- his thoughts are very disjointed and nutty.

amazongoddess: there is a cool manson documentary called "Manson" which has interviews with the family members and clips of manson speaking. It's out of print I think but can be found on ebay or you may be able to rent it from certain stores. Another cool thing about the documentary is that some of Manson's words in it were sampled by Skinny Puppy. (Well it's cool if you're an obsessive skinny puppy fan at least  ). Also the aforementioned geraldo interview can be found on ebay as well, along with a lot of other stuff.

I'm not sure what the Manson appeal is. For me, it was a natural branch on a musical tree. When you are just finding out about a particular type of music that really hooks you, you check out all of the band's influences and just get absorbed by the culture.

I'd always been a bit of a "true crime" geek, but I did not really start getting the fear until I got turned on to Psychic TV and Throbbing Gristle and then bands like NON and Boyd Rice. Manson was of fetishist interest to them the same way that Current 93 and Coil were experimenting with OTO and the writings of Crowley.

It was the hippy commune / disengagement from society aspect that appealed to me the most, and what Psychic TV latched onto - evil flower children. It was like this violent response to the hippy movement full of negative energy and hate. I lost him when his views shifted toward socialism / nazism throughout his incarceration. His association with bands like NON / Boyd Rice and Radio Werewolf, seem to dwell more on the teutonic aspect, making him out to be some kind of physical manifestation of Wottan / Odin, and he is well thought of in aryian / white power groups. Not my cup of Asturu, thank you very much.

The video painted bird mentioned, "Manson" is very informative as it consists largely of interviews given at the time and video footage of life at the Spahn Ranch. Another film, Charles Manson Superstar, is probably more readily available and concerns the post incarcerated Manson, more so than the Spahn Ranch cult leader. The video is made by Nicholas Shreck of Radio Werewolf and so is filled with Satanic and Nazi references. It really is the lesser of the two, but is worthwhile to see how much of a fruitcake he is / has becoume, as well as an insight to people who still idolize him today.

Thanks

Ok, So both movies sound worth checking into. I'm definitely going to look for cracks in my schedule to squeeze a night of drama...or at least Manson. Thanks for the info. Keep it coming, if you've got it.
All's welcome.

I saw a really good documentary filmed before, but edited after the manson family murders. I wish I could remember the name of it becasue it had a lot of actual interviews with the members. One of the female members plea bargained and never went to jail, but yet again, my age is catching up with me and I cannot remember her name either. I do remember this...in the documentary the chick who plea bargained out told about her most exciting sexual experience was with a guy who blew his brains out while they were having sex...sounds liek one of the sickest ones got away with murder. If my geritol kicks in and I remember the name of the movie, I'll post it.
