Dates: August 20, 5–9pm; August 21 & 22, 1–5pm
Tickets: Call 865.525.6101 x230 or email sspires@kmaonline.org
The mission of Knoxville’s African American Film Festival is to embrace, review and acknowledge the power of African American films on the cultural and social patterns of our society. In addition to screening films, the festival will include the display of art, decorative objects and historical artifacts placing the film within the cultural contexts of the themes and times. Discussions will be led by African American scholars who will talk about the sociological nature of the films that were for, by, about, and with African Americans in their roles as filmmakers, screenwriters, actors, and targeted audience members. The influences and affects of the primarily white film community in the production and distribution of the filmworks will also be addressed.
The inaugural season is planned as a three-day weekend, with a mixture of independent and studio-supported films, both new and classic, some short subjects and others feature length, shown throughout the four-hour time period each of the three days in museum’s auditorium. There will be intermissions!
The specific films, filmmakers, actors, and guest lecturers will be listed on the website at: http://www.ettfc.com/kaaff/
Tickets will be packaged for the entire three days, and also made available for one-day admissions. To sign up now to receive more information, please e-mail sspires@kmaonline.org or call 865.525.6101 x230.
