Saw Hero yesturday. first thing of note and of the least importance, is that the movie is Red Chinese Propaganda and I mean freash post revolution kind. But that being said RCP only ever worked on the chinese so that lets the rest of us enjoy it simply as a story.
Now critics are giving the a 5 out 5 rating and I dont think so.
lets do a break down
Cinemaphotography 5 ok here we can see a 5
Story 2 barely there
Plot 2 its as put together as this review is.
Acting 3 standard
Action 0 and 4 the movie has some really great moments but then at other times 0
Wire work -5 Ok these guys invented this and have been doing it for decades WHY CANT THE GET IT RIGHT???!!!! or at least make it look as good as highschool amatuers doing their first movie.
I complained about it with CTHD and its only gotten worse, I mean it really spoils the movie there is so much of it and it is sooooo bad and it gets so repetative (by the way on of the complaints I heard, "how many times do I have to see this guy die, so badly"
If your Really forgiving 2 and 1/2.

Tor, I agree with much of your assessment of Hero. Stunning to look at and
definately propaganda. Wire fu looks how it looks. It's never been meant to look slick and "realistic." For that we have US studios and Spiderman leaping from building to building. The wire work is aesthetic and art, and you like it or you don't. I agree that it looks a bit hokey, but that is the style.
I had very high hopes for what was supposed to be the anti-wire-fu movie out of Thailand, Ong Bak, or Thai Warrior, but in the end it just looked too...Van Damme
