waaaayyy back when, in the 1980's, a very cool place called Planet Earth popped up and quickly became the gathering place of knoxville's : displaced, rock n rollers, goths, pizza lovers, dancers, romantics, punks, philosophers, etc etc etc.
New music from pioneering bands and artists such as love & rockets, cocteau twins, depeche mode, siouxie & the banshees, meat beat manifesto, danielle dax, bauhaus, smiths, severed heads, sisters of mercy......could be heard only in this venue...
Touring bands such as Sonic Youth, GWAR, Jesus Chrysler, Front Line Assembly, Grinning Plowmen, Judybats and Dessau played to packed houses here
a reunion is planned .......said reunion consisting of employees from the premiere knoxville nightspot , bands that played there, patrons of the now legendary bar/danceclub, and those that hung around just to watch the goings on.... people are planning on coming in from all the country for this event --- more information provided as it develops...
I am not planner /organizer for this event - merely a messenger
michael xi - i know you were around then.... who else was ?

I remember all my friends going, but I stayed home with my baby girl. Not much time for socializing when you're a full time student & unwed teenaged mother, ya know?
I'm really glad they're doing it, though. It kinda started it all so long ago.

I was called by one of the clubs former managers and informed of the upcoming event - i will post accurate information as to the time of the event as it becomes available - apparently the venue is set,
the "roasting room" downtown has been selected...
Brent Borrison, Susan Boudreaux/Needham, David Wyatt and a couple of others are the primary organizers.....

*raises hand* yup, those were the good old days. I came in to it kinda late though as I think it was only around for a short time after I started my UT career. I think I went to maybe 2-3 events there before it turned into 121.
The days of 121 and the early Underground was some good days.

Haha! This is great! My older sister used to go there, and the first weekend I managed to sneak out of the house to go it closed! I made it to 121 once, and the Ace of Clubs (where Bluecats is noe I believe) a time or two, but that was it. No planet Earth Reunion for me.
hmmm

Miz Kitty brings up an interesting question: are only those who were actually at Planet Earth welcome at the reunion or can those of us who missed it come to hear the stories and live vicariously through them?
