anybody remember it?
I'm looking for a drummer that wants to play some hard, fast music
our bass player just headed back to nashville for christmas, but he'll be back in january
so we just need somebody to come in and go over the 10 or 12 songs we've got(and anything else I come up with) until he gets back and we get prepared for a show
we're not looking for any fuckin peligros or anything
you just need to be able to play, and have a place to play
cos I can't fit a drum kit in my tiny ass apartment and I don't think my neighbors would appreciate it
it's myself on guitar and vocals, two other vocalists and a bass player
if anybody's serious about it, try e-mailing me, I'll check this again, but I doubt I'll be on this board much
jarnol17@tennessee.edu
oh, and don't be a close-minded dumbfuck, cos one of our members is gay

I'll ignore the punk is dead remark...Crass pulled that shit of years before and way better than you...anyways...if you know shit about punk then you'll know that we dont give a shit about sexuallity...you are what you are and that's it...we were trying to pull out all the seperations on shit just like that in the original conception...women were no longer second class citizens punk made that clear...gays were just there not feared not belittled at least no more that you would make fun of your drinking buddy...it was more of a "fuck everything...tear it all down and lets start over"...but then came the leather jacket postcard punks...lets all get the punk uniform...leather jacket..tight pants...big boots..christ you people have seen my clothes at events...that look...it's what killed punk...thats the joke and the point of sporting that look for me...if you think that's punk you dont know shit about it...I dont look down on someone for it..I just know not to worry about there opinion of punk...But no it's not dead just passed out...it'll get back up to destroy all weve backed ourselves into a corner with soon enough...the movement works like the music...short hard and fast...it lasts about as long as Orson Wells in the boston marathon but you feel it like a Mike Tyson punch...the repercussions can last for decades...bands like crass and there poster boys up front the pistols practically rearranged british society in two or three years...If Jello hadnt had his holiday in cambodia then rage against the machine wouldnt be writing those shit songs of there's...make no mistake about it...as long as there is a need to break out of our current state and get back to basics there will always be punk...(sorry folks you knew I couldnt leave this one alone)

Just out of curiosity, how old is everyone here talking about punk?
One of the most astounding ads for a punk band was asking for "ages 18-25." This age group wasn't even out of kindergarten when punk started.
Yeah, I am an old fart, but at least I was there and can truthfully say that it, as least, is dying.

Hear hear. I used to think that punk was just going through a bad period, but as it turns out, it wasn't a bad period. It was the natural state of punk. The
good punk from back in the late 70's early 80's was a sort of 'golden age' and it will probably never return...unfortunately.
Punk these days....I dunno, it's just bad.

eh, I go for more 80s and early to mid 90s, but I guess that has to do with my age and those being the parts I've been alive for
I do kinda wonder about this every once in a while
is punk, dead, dying, or decayed?
I guess it really doesn't matter, though
I've contemplated wether to even call my music punk, seein as how what is punk to me may disagree with what another person thinks
I just play hard, fast music that's mostly three or four chord songs
besides, while i love Fear, the Dread, the Dicks, and all such
I also cover an Alicia Keys song
so.....y'know......fuck it
there will always be someone out there who likes good music
and it ain't dead yet
go check out Speedshifter, I like them

to answer that Im 25...I like to read up on the history of punk...and from what Ive read...yea now it's gotten lame..weve lost the fury that made it so effective...it was something that everyone could relate to...who hasnt gotten fed up and thought "Ive had enough heres the truth"?....so now it's a paper tiger of what it used to be...it needs a new face...one that isnt so clean with even white teeth...I think of the 80's hardcore scene as the golden age of punk...but if we find a new way to express our anger with a conformist society...one that is relevant to current social restrictions and political backstabbings then we will see a return of the essence of the idea....you two were there for the original conception...what have we lost??....where.. are all the angry people??...the ones who want the confrontation,,who want to go head on with all the things that keep us from being who we really are...and doing what we really want to do...Im not an angry man twenty four seven...ya know gg's dead...(but that murder junkies show is gonna be the shit)...but when it comes to quietly accepting the shit that is thrust upon us I'll be the first to stand and fight...the offspring??...Im supposed to be into that??...get the fuck outa here....my president is no longer picked by me??...fuck a bunch of that!!...if we all get together and raise our voice then we can have what we want when we want it...but weve been bought off....made complacent by mtv and hot topic...just buy your illusion of an identity and we'll tell you what to do and what to worry about...everyone who bought into the system to do more damage got ate up by it....I can only hope to record the damage and hope to make it through the system fun house with my ideas intact...where did we go wrong??

I'm 22...but where does age matter? Just cause we might have been born 10 or 20 or whatever years after punk supposedly broke out, doesn't mean we don't listen to the older forms of it and came to appreciate thru that. To quote one of my favorite people "I'm gonna keep on surviving cause thru music we can live forever." I don't fucking care who started punk, where it came from or where it's gone. All I know is that it's in me and will stay alive in me no matter if everyone else things it's dead.
And isn't one of the whole "punk" things is to not give a shit about any of that in the 1st place? SO WHO REALLY CARES? DOES IT REALLY MATTER? NO.
Oh, and Joe. You just gained a respect point with me.

I think that somethings do matter...This I honestly think, That this doesn't...BUT...While I do like some old punk (Misfits, GG Allen, Iggy Pop)...Punk NOW, is dead...New-school-'my-girlfriend-died-Emo rules the waves...Face it GG's dead...Joey's dead...Punk is dead...

it really doesn't matter
and there are still good bands out there
TKO Records puts out a comp called punch drunk
and unlike the punk-o-rama series(RIP 1 through 3), the newest edition is just as good as the first
also, while they're not really punk at all(in fact, their newest stuff is quite definately metal), there's a great band with that 'fuck-you-attitude', playing the music they want, how they want to play it
they're called Cancerslug
http://www.cancerslug.net
their newest album, Curse Arcanum(the metal one), and their battle hymns albums(rehashes of their old songs), are all 3 available for free download on their website
also, if enough people get into cancerslug here, they'll come play, but they want to see that there's a crowd for them here
so check them out and hit up their message board, tell 'em TheHollowThingsYouSaytoMe sent you
and that he says Alex likes AFI
also, back in the world of punk rock
there's always bands like Against All Authority, who continue to play their political punk rock
and of course the real heart of punk rock lies in local bands here and there who haven't managed to get big yet
round here we got Speedshifter
there's a band out of Chicago called the Wanderers, but they might not be playing anymore
and.....uh......me
and my merry band of freaks
1 of our singers is more into Oasis and the Beatles than punk, and our bass player listens to emo
but there's also me and the famous Jason Lee
I forgot what the fuck I was talking about[/url]

Punk is alive as long as what they left behind is still alive in us. People with closed minds is what's going to kill it for alot people.
And GG really wasn't that great. Alot of people liked him cause he did crazy stuff on stage and the whole image he represented. Fuck the image, it should be about music.

what the hell are you talking about
i'm makin a record called the great powernoise swindle
on hive records this year in tribute to johnny rotten
the only real punk
and yes crass did make a song called punk is dead
maybe you should have listened
because they are one of the few bands that took the aesthetic and ran with it
and i dunno about all this babbleing your doing about gender and sexual orientation
it's not culture and it doesn't define you
sex is sex
who needs to go on about it
and it really had nothing to do with anything i commented on
noise is the only thing close to the true aesthetic of punk these days
and if you aren't listening then you never really got it
period
point
blank

weve lost the fury that made it so effective...
no your just listening to the wrong shit
your listening to bands that are to caught up in making it sound like every other punk band that exists
and making sure they get their sub humans patch pinned just right on their ass
the fury is still there
it's just we don't rehash the same three chord progressions
in fact fuck chordes
they just get in the way
express our anger with a conformist society
lol that's rich
where.. are all the angry people??...the ones who want the confrontation,
they listen to power electronics
if you want confrontation go watch a slogun show

I'll just write it again
FUCK JOHNNY ROTTEN
the sex pistols were no-talent hacks, and though that's the mold of most punk rock, they somehow managed to find a way to still suck
maybe it's because they didn't know how to play their instruments and johnny can't sing
fuckin british bullshit
fuck you john lydon
rot in hell Sid, rot in hell, you junkie bastard
