Apparently, Queen is going on tour next year using Paul Rodger's in place of Freddie Mercury. I have always loved Mercury's voice as well as his energy, so I'm quite skeptical of someone being able to come close to his presence with the band. I guess I will wait and see.

Hmmm...I don't know. It depends on the band's dynamic I guess. Iconically speaking, Mercury was Queen, so it does not seem right. At least when Ian Curtis died, the remaining members of Joy Division chose to form a new band. That seems much classier. It also shows that the other members felt that they had much more to offer musically than what they produced as Joy Division, and went off in a different direction.

I guess a singer is usually afforded the identity of the band and is difficult to replace. But it can work. Exceptions have been made - AC/DC, Van Halen, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden. But all of those changes were made with a lot of opposition from fans who could not identify with a new icon. But they overcame that and grew new legions of fans. Maybe Queen is in that camp as well? The only difference I can think of, and the one that makes this not sit so well with me, is that it has been many years since Mercury's death, so this does not seem to be an artistic choice of continuing the band, but rather a financial one.

Do they have a right to profit off of music they contributed to? Most certainly. Does it seem "right" to do so in this manner? Not to me, but that's just my opinion.

I'm not a Def Leppard fan by any means, but I highly respect and salute the fact that they stood by their drummer after his tragedy. That was tight.

When Razzle of Hanoi Rocks was killed by dumb drunkass Vince Neil, they broke up - the band dynamic was lost. They since reformed (recently) and released a tired crappy and uninspired album. Maybe that is the direction Queen is gunning for...
