New Deftones Album Sucks!

I guess I could've given it a more "sophisticated" title, but why bother. The new Deftones album really does suck. Beyond the first four tracks, the album is a total waste and even the first four are nothing all that worthwhile.

Deftones sounds like some cross between White Pony and Adrenaline, though, unfortunately, it's an experiment gone horribly wrong, with the possible exception of "Good Morning Beautiful." But then again, that song, easily the best on the album, would only seem like filler on a better Deftones album. "Minerva" is the next best track on here, but I'm not in love with it, either. The last 7 tracks alternate between being mediocre and just plain God awful with the best among them probably being "When Girls Telephone Boys," which seems like it could work, but just doesn't.

I think the worst thing you can say about a band is that they are starting to sound like themselves, for if a band sounds like itself, that means it has nothing new to offer. It's no longer interesting or original. It just keeps doing the same thing over and over again. Deftones makes me thing that the Deftones have reached that point. So maybe it was strangely appropriate to self-title this album.

In any case, the basic message is I'm disappointed with album and find it a huge step down from White Pony.

Though, everyone I've talked to has liked this album, so maybe it's just me. But I really do think it sucks badly.

I give it 2 stars (out of a possible 5).

We listened to white pony at work today...I enjoyed it..but I felt like I was listening to really cool elevator music.

Come on Jared, I know you can do better than criticizing someone for having an opinion and then trying to attack them because of the mere possibility that their opinion might sway someone. This forum is for discusion of music, reviews, and shit. Are you saying, we should not post anything because of the possibility that we have an opinion on something that may sway someone? You seem to be spouting an ideological opposition to the forum itself.

Additionally, if we all had unlimited money, then we'd have no problem wasting it on bad CDs. But we don't. It's kinda nice to know what others say. If 100 people who have similiar tastes in music as yourself tell you something sucks and no one tells you it's good, are you going to buy it? You'd likely just be wasting your $15.

And in any case, did I ever say "Don't buy this CD, follow me blindly, and do exactly what I tell you to. No divergent opinions are allowed."? I didn't really think a disclaimer was needed in the post stating that people are allowed to have their own opinions. I assumed, being a forum for the discussion of the music, that this was implied.
