I was watching something on vh1(yea I watch so what?) and in the end credits it showed a video of some nancy boys carrying a coffin and it sounded like goth pop. Anyone know who the band and song is ? If so is it in fact goth pop? :-x

My Chemical Romance - Helena

I saw the same thing, I think. They are actually a pretty decent band.

I saw that. They seemed okay from the clip, though it wasn't really long enough to decide. I like the idea of goth pop though, I like pop music. :-x

"I'm not okay" has to be one of the funniest songs I have heard in the last few years and I like the fact that these little brats are taking the goth subculture to the mainstream. You can't copyright a thought unless you can decide what the thought is and put it into distinct logical terms. If someone could please put "goth" into distinct logical terms that we can all agree on that would be great. Until then,

I'M NOT OKAY!

i <3 merc.
im not okay is another song for teeny bopping lawnmower food with no grasp on any real expression or emotion.
:banghead:
they combined the stupidity of emo with the goth wannabe-ness of evanesence with the lyricial inability of numetals papa roach and made a floater for anyone that doesnt have enough meaningless shit in their life.
if you wanna be into goth, do it.
if you wanna be into punk, do it.
just make sure if your listening to watered down garbage thats been turned into some poppy sensation so a record label can tell 14 year old kids whats real music and cool with abs-o-fucking-lute-ly no idea what the words "lyrical content" mean or what "genre" or "talent" apply to that you just say you have no goddamned music taste at all and your letting marketing departments pick your music, dress you, and make sure your IQ never passes the 20 cap they imposed on mainstream culture.

as for the song on that show, helena i think they said it was, i can only imagine its status in the line for the toliet.
the funny thing is that band has recorded (think it was their first album) a few songs i downloaded to humor my bass player that arent horrible.
but i heard im not okay and i thought my asshole was going to implode from the impending pop culture doom.

I have no problem with The Mainstream bastardizing every good idea that has come along...If some kid can buy a Bently, because there are millions of pathetic kids out there that don't have a fuckin' clue, but have 15 bucks in their pockets...So be it...I want that gig...

R.H.Bear, the bassist for a little Industrial band called BILE, said it best, I believe..."I hear all these kids come up & say, 'I started putting together a band...You guys are a great influence'...Dude, if you're really a big fan...Go start up a Linkin Park-band...Go on tour...& let us open for you...Let us milk that shit...Let us make mad cash..."

I only have a problem with the kids that don't know the roots of Punk, Goth, Emo, Ska, etc...But claim that they are...

If you don't know who Danial Ash or Robert Smith is...You are no where near Goth...

If you don't know who G.G.Allen is...You are no where near Punk...

If you don't know who Sunny Day Realistate is...You are not Emo...

This isn't to say you have to like them...But at least know the fuckin' difference...Jeezus...

As for me...

"Fuck Mainstream, Fuck the Norm..."

Having worked at Hot Topic for close to 2 years exposed me to a lot of music I wouldn't have given a chance...so, I'll admit I like "I'm not okay". I even like one atreyu song....: shame :

i fucking love you.
esp for mentioning GG Allin. id like to see a group of the old school kids beat the shit outta the lil sum41 fuckers anyday... and those good charcoal or whatever kids.
shamefully, i like some sunny day realistate songs if you consider the songs they did with the foo fighters... and some of their normal stuff isnt bad....

and i unfortunately have to admit to liking a number of atreyu songs.

but that im not okay thing is just overboard.

i dunno
this is the exact reason im writing songs right now.its because i need a whip to beat these people with.hate for this is the subject material..

if you think of the logistics of what happens when you water down every genre or style of music, thought, whatever... it should invoke fear in you.
i mean really.
sit down with a piece of paper and start drawing the flowchart for what marketing departments will have to do next to keep the influx of revenue based off of the "your unique like everyone else" marketing trent shit theyve been doing last few years

its gonna get to a point where rebellion means looking like that guy from revenge of the nerds (you know the main character)... going to church, being in the drama club, voting bush, staying a virgin, and the revivial of the mullet. dont forget the classical music baby. thats gonna be the new punk rock just to avoid the mainsteam culture and try to experiment
remember kids, when swimming the in mainstream, dont forget to piss in the water.

I go by the opinion that everyone should do what ever the fuck makes them happy. Was it ever really about rebellion? My parents were hippies so they gave two fucks about how I looked (except for the nail polish), and for the most part they hate what I listen too. These are the same people who made me listen to Arlo Guthrie, Alice Cooper,Johnny Cash, Pink Floyd and Jethro Tull. And from that grew AC/DC, Misfits, Weird Al, Metallica, White Zombie, NIN, Manson, Slipknot and all the other shit that makes me giggle. If the music is actually good it will stay around and it isn't they will be remembered in the same way that flock of seagulls and any othe 1 hit wonder will be. It isn't about being differant. It is about doing what you want regardless of the systematic control mechinisms that people use because they don't know any better.

I really like My Chemical Romance, i think they do their own thing and make interesting music. I've heard my fair share of indy as fuck 4 track recording made in some dudes mom's basement using a cowbell, a guitar with 3 strings and a childrens piano that the mckay kids think is great that i would rather stick a pen in my ear than listen to. I also listen to pop radio (when i am not listening to NPR. Does that make me a hippie...shit) And i do think that it is nieve to think that everything that comes on the radio is good. but it may also be a little nieve to think that something is bad simply because it gets mainstream airplay. especially if you've only heard the single. now i have an excuse to play helena this weekend at temple, even if my reason is to simply piss J.C. off. oh-la-la
