This is starting to look like a cult or something. (I wonder why that is so familiar?)

Nippon doesn't invent, it steals.
Anything Nipponese can be judged in hometown popularity inverse to how original it is.
Goth: Super popular number one!
Acid Mothers Temple (or Fushitsusha or Ghost or the Boredoms): Who?

I don't get it? Ganguro has been around for a while. At least one popular manga, Peach Girl, is a play on the culture. Just people trying to set themselves apart from the crowd by becoming a part of a smaller crowd. Is that what you mean by stealing?
Ghost and Acid Mothers may owe a lot to psychadelic rock of the 70's, but they certainly make their own contributions of traditional Japnaese instruments and music. Of course, Loudness did steal Motley Crue, so I'll give you that one!

I've heard that injuries from those super-tall platform shoes are quite common.

I think that this iz simply a meanz ov expression & playfulness, az well az, a way 2 rebel against the traditional ideaz ov beauty within their cul2r ... I don't really c it being so "out there" or even much different from most other generational fadz 2 cum & go ...

No, I mean that it's an imitation of something American, like most "pop" Nipponese culture.

No, that's what I'm saying - Ghost and AMT and bands like that are not popular or well-known in Nippon, at all. They have far more fans in Europe and America. And that's because they're original, not caricature.
That's why, say, Guitar Wolf is popular there - they are(were?) a caricature of American "rock and roll lifestyle", complete with leather jackets, slicked back hair, and beer chugging.

Ah so. Now I see said the blind man. I had no idea that AMT and Ghost had a larger European and American following - but then Ghost is on Drag City Records.
Here's something you will get a kick out of. This is the journal of an American teaching in Japan. Talks a lot about the acceptance of MTV Hip Hop culture and Kancho, a fad I hope never catches on here

Yep, sad but true. Hell, I've talked to Nipponese people who love Mogwai and Explosions in the Sky but have never even heard of their own Mono.

It's called Kancho, and just about any kid can be a Kancho Assassin. Even the sweetest little girl may be prone to jam her fingers up your ass the second you turn around. This happened to one of my friends, which just goes to show - don't trust anyone. I'd say the little girls are the most dangerous cause they have natural ways of lowering your defenses.
WTF?!
