Greets and Introduction

Hey all,
Just got back from Sanctus, and to be honest, it was quite an unfulfilling experience.
Before I raise any hackles, I must say, it was no one's fault but my own. The music was great, the venue was great, the costumes were awesome, and the dancers enthusiastic.
Unfortunately, I didn't know anybody.
I've been floating around the scene for about a year now, not a fixture, but I'm around. I usually come with a bunch of friends and I've got a girlfriend, so the pressure to meet new people really hasn't bitten me before.
Tonite, however, I went with a single friend whose sole purpose of the night was to try and meet a girl. This left me largely by myself for a good chunk of the night, and being an unconfidant dancer at best, with very little to do.
The whole atmosphere seemed like that of a large group of good friends, and I simply had no idea how to integrate myself. Hence, the last ditch effort of all geeks; do it online.
So here I am, I'm saying "hello" now, and I'd like to say "hello" to many of you at the next Sanctus.
My name is Aaron (or Thorn, if Aaron is too boring), and I'm 22 years old and male. Primary geekly interests are role playing and bit fat doorstopper fantasy novels, with a healthy dose of video games. I'm a Graphic Design student at ETSU, with about a year left before graduation. I'm from "around here", and have been from "around here" my entire life. My favorite goth bands are the Cruxshadows (big surprise) and Bella Morte (another big surprise, I'm sure), and yes, I even went to that poorly attended, yet oh-so-awesome Cruxshadows show in Johnson City at the Hideaway. Dear lord - no surrealist artist could fully grasp the weirdness of seeing the Cruxshadows at the crummiest of downtown bars in Johnson City, Tennessee. Just plain strange.
So that's my bit. Hope to talk to you all soon.

Welcome to KG!

Yes it can be hard to meet people, and this is a good place to start to get a little conversation going and start to get to know a few of the folk around the scene.
Feel free to look me up at Sanctus at any time and say hello. If I'm not to busy (I have to work at Sanctus...damn it) at that moment I'll try and introduce you around to some people. Just ask for Bone at the DJ booth and if I'm not there, they can probably point me out for you.

Anyway...Welcome to the Asylum, Hope you enjoy your stay!

Welcome, Thorn.

Hideaways is a true dive! I'm a transplant from Kingsport myself and have frequented several of those places over the years. Maybe we'll run into each other at one of those events.

Anyway, welcome to the funhouse!

Hey Kid...Glad you enjoyed yourself...I think that it may be a little easier to actually MEET people at Temple...Sanctus is alot more populated...& hella fun, once you know a few people, or are big into dancing...But Temple is a little more laid back...Also, there are quite a few RPG Geeks on this forum...*raises hand*...*shifts eyes*...Just come in...Relax...& Watch the fireworks, like it's the end of the world...

Wow, glad to see people responding.
Junkie Christ - Yeah, I'm still going to ETSU, so I honestly don't get much time to haunt the town. Heading into my 4th year there, and things really start revving up in the art program at that point. I did get a chance to go to the Otter for the first time a few weeks back, when my short film class held their film festival there. I had three films that showed, but honestly I can't blame anyone for not going. Four hours of pretentious student films by first-time film makers isn't my idea of a good time either. ^_~ Though I did think the Otter was kinda cool. Don't know about the clientelle though.
And as far as gaming, if anyone is in the tri-cities area during fall or spring semester time, you might wanna check out the Gaming Society at ETSU. A few friends and I started it this year, and over the year we put together a pretty good club. It's open to anyone, members get discounts at local gaming stores, and there's always like 20+ gamers there ready to play whatever. If you're ever in Nords or Dice Fun and Games, we keep a flier up with the current meeting time there.
Of course, all the JC stuff is kind of irrelevant right now considering I'm back in K-Town area for the summer. lol

Welcome to the forum.

Feel free to drop by Urban Bar and Corner Cafe before the next Sanctus. There are several of us that meet up beforehand to drink, eat, play the crackbox (or the Megatouch as it is officially known), etc. Its a lower key environment where we do more talking before we get into a loud club. I can't say that I am the most social at a club. I'm usually not far from the dance floor.

As Mo already mentioned, Temple is on Saturday nights at Amnesia, so that's another good outlet for meeting people.

BTW, cool deal on being a year away from you degree in Graphic Design. That was my brother's career choice as well. Good luck with it.
