Darkness Shifts

Darkness shifts into a grey sunless dawn
My face is wet with tears
I don't remember crying
Did I dream I was dying?
I don't remember dreaming
My heart is a heavy rock imploding
I open my eyes
Expecting to see a dead body crushing my chest
None lies there
He rises at the edge of my memory... watching
I am convinced He is real and not a dream shadow
The fugitive desire of my subconscious escapes confinement of mistaken identity
Memories are no more than flecks of gold in a dust storm
The wind carries the kisses of the Dead
Did I kill Him?
You press for the Truth
But, the Truth, like Beauty is purely a matter of Perception
He shifts in restless slumber
His breath catches a moment in His throat
Heart pounding
His dark eyes open in frightened confusion
I fade into the sunless dream shadow
Memories are no more than flecks of gold in a dust storm
The wind carries the kisses of the Dead
My face is wet with tears
I don't remember crying
Did I dream I was dying?
I don't remember dreaming
My heart is a heavy rock imploding
I open my eyes
Expecting to see a dead body crushing my chest
None lies there
He rises at the edge of my memory... watching
I am convinced He is real and not a dream shadow
