Knox Cops vs Cheap Gas

Okay I just have to share this fun stuff...
The gas mart on Clinton Hwy across from my shop has had gas 10-20 cents cheaper than most of the gas stations for about the last month. This has lead to LONG lines up the road for gas.

Today the cops have shown up blocking off entrances to the gas station and directing traffic up and around the back of the station.
Police do not cross tape went up around the main entrances....
Now 3 cop cars and a motorcycle cop directing traffic at the gas station.

I have not been over to talk to the guys at the store but it looked as if they were having words with the cops about blocking off right of way to their store.

following discussion the owner just went out and dropped his gas prices another 2 cents per gallon (now at 2.09 for low and medium test gas and 2.29 for high test... I can only imagine it went something like this... "You are gonna block my customers from getting into my store, I'm gonna lower my gas price even more to make you bigger headaches"

LMAO

Can't say for sure thats the story, but from here across the street thats the way it has looked. Just wanted to share my "stick it to the man giggle for the day"

I'll have to run over in a bit and get the full dirt.

Latest update:

Just went across the street for a coke. I was told by one of the employees that the cops are now blocking two of the entrances to the station and are writing $80 tickets to anyone stopping on the road to get in line to the station.

Now kids heres the real good news. According to the employee they police dept FORCED him to increase his gas prices from $2.09 a gallon to $2.19 a gallon. Can we say "inforced goverment inflated gas prices"...
Apparently they (the police) said that the other gas stations in the area couldn't sell their gas because the Gas Mart price was so low.

While this was being fun to watch earlier, this situation is starting to really piss me off at the police dept.

Man do I see potential lawsuits over this one

WVLT TV has been there all day covering the issue... We'll see what they have to say.

I'm almost certain it's not. I can see the frustration with the police, with a potential traffic jam/hazard, but I don't think they have the right to enforce gas prices at all.
If I'm wrong, that's fucked.

IANAL, but last i checked, no. definitely not legal. the kpd could very well be sued for that.

i mean, if they tried that shit with mcdonald's, they would be sued for that.

anyone else notice that 'IANAL' is the coolest acronym in the world?

I must say, I gotta feel for the cops on this one. I actually went to that station about 2 weeks ago, they had the low proce thing going on then as well, and I felt like I was in a Seinfeld episode. "No gas for you!" I wait in line for like 15 min, finally get there, and the twit has someone else pull in front of me. Now i had gone to the NON highway side of the line, as to not extend the line out to Clinton highway. So, for being considerate, I have to wait like twice as long, and when I get up there and he (one of the owners) starts directing ppl from other lines in front of me, I get a BIT miffed. So i mention this to the guy and he acts like the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld. I don't agree with the cops upping his prices, but I DO hope they give em hell, they really pissed me off that day.
