Paul W.S. Anderson is directing this one. Apparently the company that bought the rights to it is also doing a Tekken and.... Pacman?!?! movie.

ok, not looking forward to one of my favorite game franchises being raped by hollywood. maybe if david goyer wrote the script. even then i'd have reservations. games don't make good movies. movies don't make good games.

in anderson's semi-defense, he did do a great job with event horizion. i don't really dig alot of sci fi, but he made a haunted space ship work. there were alot of great shots in that film that really conveyed the creepiness and emptiness of the monster ship they were exploring.

but a look at some of his other works such as resident evil, mortal kombat, aliens vs predator & solider has me thinking that this will be far from classic. plus he's also slated to write and direct a remake of roger corman's deathrace 2000. remaking a camp classic like that is inconceivable.

i don't think konami whoring out one of their main franchise titles to the studio who is willing to pay the most bones for it will really help them sell more games, or bring more prestige to the franchise. did we learn nothing from capcom's move to license a street fighter movie?

Let's hope so! Can you believe the cast they got for that POS though? Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamos, Dennis Hopper...OK, we all know Dennis Hopper will do anything for a paycheck, but fuck. Still, as bad as that may look on their resumes, no one had it worse than poor fucking Raul Julia dying with M. Bison as his final role.

Goddamn...Videogame movies. It has been said before, but when will people just fucking respect the golden rule: Every movie based on a game will suck, every game based on a movie will suck. Stop the insanity!

advent children was really damn good.
but its more of a sequel.

I'd like to see that. FF7 was my second favorite Final Fantasy game - Nothing can touch 5. I'd like to see more of the characters. Is this a series, like an OVA, or just one long movie?

Are you kidding me? Super Mario Bros. was a fucking great movie - it was as twisted and bizarre as anything David Lynch has ever done.

But yes, Raul ending on the note of M. Bison was even worse than Orson Welles ending his career as Unitron. I mean, at least Transformers was a good movie.

Not true.

Movies based on games that didn't suck: the first Mortal Kombat, the anime version of Street Fighter, Super Mario Bros., Final Fantasy: the Spirits Within, Resident Evil (hey, I liked it).

Games based on movies that didn't suck: Batman on the NES, Dune 2 (you know, the game that laid the template for _every single RTS game in existance_ ), Enter the Matrix

OK, except for Dune 2 (and Enter the Matrix, kinda), I guess neither of those categories have stunning track records, but it does happen.
