I have thought about this for sometime, whether or not to ask this question. So I have decided to ask....hopefully curiosity does not kill the cat here. The question or questions are serious. You dont have to post if u dont want to. But what if any God or higher power do u believe in? If you would please post and tell me a little about you and your belief. Im not here to judge, and i did not create this for others to judge. Even ll me a little history. Me, I was raised southern old school baptist....you know all the screaming and jumping. I was even a baptist youth minister. But do to a resent turn of events I have found myself....not faithless but searching for something else. I have researched catholisism, buhdism, bah'ai, and even islam. The search continues....now researching the New Age.

What is this "God" thing you speak of?

Is that like the TV show Lost? If it is, yeah, I'm down with it.

Apologies to all those I am about to offend, but these are just my thoughts:

Religion is about vanity, the assumption that you are so great that there just has to be more to you than any other form of life on earth. That there must be some special purpose to your life. So you give yourself a soul and create a creator in your own image. You give yourself a personal relationship with your creator. You talk to him (it's jusually a him) and think that he is always watching you. You do things in his name of which you think he would approve, and condemn things of which you think he would disapprove. He's your own personal father figure, your own personal god.

Organized religion is an even worse monster, because it exists only to control people and to encourage conformity. There is a vanity present in this also. In order to make its followers more secure in their beliefs, religions persecute those that do not follow their religion. They call them infidels, sinners, "lost," just becasuse they do not believe. Their sole goal is something along the lines of Invasion of the Body Snatchers - Create More Drones.

When you are done searching religions, try this on for size:

Believe in yourself. Treat others as well as you are able. Try just being a good person because that is the way you should be, not for some sort of karmic balance - That is also the backbone of most religions once you dispense of all of the other unnecessary dogma.

To me, that is living a good life, keeps me happy, and is as close to a higher power as I need to come.

Yeah I'm with Oni on this one. For the most part, I find most all religions to be completely ridiculous and irrational. Buddhism is more of a philosophy in some areas, so its not too irrational.

I try to treat others like I want to be treated and make others lives better. I have no problem knowing that I rot in the ground when it is all over...

My advice to you would be to stop looking for something to explain it all and look to science which tries to explain logically, bits of the whole. Evolve from archaic beliefs in anything you cannot prove or logically infer.

Man, I love any post that starts with an apology to those they are going to offend.

I'm a Christian. I'm not very vocal about my choice of religion, because I'm not exactly at the point where I can be looked at as a role model for other Chirstians.

Plain and Simple.

And yes, bringing up religion on here is a dangerous bit...just look at that "Gothic Church" thread.

Oni nailed it!
Why do you think I have "I am God. You are God. Get it?" as one of my signatures

I dont follow a god or goddess, I believe there is a higher power/energy that I refer to simply as the "IS" as it just...is. I don't feel that it is aware or concious in of it's own, or that it gives two rats asses about what we do... it just "IS".

We as an aware species will do as we will, rewards and punishements are our own. I do believe in the grand scheme of things nature will balance itself though. Not in the Karma sense, my view of universal law is very like one Newtons laws of physics ie: for every action the is an equal and opposite reaction... Nature balancing itself. Look far enough an it applies to all things.

With me however this could all be clouded by the fact that I believe most of what we refer to as religion is how we humans find comfort with the unknown and the unexplainable. Science has dispelled so many things that just centuries ago we refered to as acts of god, or supernatural. Therein it would seem only logical to me to find scientific law, applicable as a way to find my answers in the spiritual realm.

To some, that would say I lack faith. Actually I have faith in the universe will balance. But lack the ego that I am so important that the "IS" cares what I do. To my own end I live my life to be the best person I can, and enjoy waht life has to offer me. That means in large living my life to get along with others in the world and thus continue my own existance. Hey the Christian 10 Commandments aside from honouring god parts are nothing more than guidelines for how to survive interacting with other people.
Ya kill someone, steal from them, or sleep with their loved ones ect, is asking for problems in your continued existance. People don't take kindly to that stuff, and violence as they say begets violence, and humans are vengeful creatures by nature.

I accept that I could be all very wrong in my beliefs but, they make me comfortable enough in my own existance, and to me thats what it's all about.

Hope that all made sense....
