Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg

We went to Gatlinburg on Sunday and had a few terrible resturant experiences. Driving throgh Pigeon Forge, I started craving pancakes. Not just any pancakes, but pancakes from a place that had bears on the sign. I wanted something local. Well apparently a lot of business owners think no one wants pancakes at 7pm on a Sunday. Not one single breakfast joint was open, aside from IHOP. My hopes and dreams were shattered.

Determined to eat somewhere unique to Pigeon Forge, we stopped at Huck Finn's Catfish and Steaks. From the outside, this place looks relatively friendly. Completely different story inside. As soon as Zeo and I walked in, the music stopped. Really, it stopped. The patrons (all locals, judging by their flannel shirts and overalls) stopped eating and stared us down. That was a little too uncomfortable for us, so we quickly jetted out of there.

By this time, we're starving and already in Gatlinburg. The only place open without a ridiculous wait was No Way Jose's. Of all the faux Mexican chain joints I've eaten at, this was the worst. For five bucks I got ONE taco of Taco Bell calibur. The waiter screwed up Zeo's order and took his sweet time (15 minutes!!) to bring us our check.

So I guess what I'm getting at is... where in the hell is a good place to eat in Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg?? Some place that is unique (but not scary), cheap, tasty, and open past 3pm?

well from a family standpoint, my parents would always drag us into ryans. Its a good buffet, relitivly cheap for what you get, but it is a buffet. I think one adult buffet with drink is around 11$ hope that helps.

Um... Ryan's Steak house is not unique to the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area, those are everywhere.
I wouldn't exactly classify a family, buffet style restaurant as being a good place to eat either...

Admittedly, I haven't had a whole lot of experience with eating in Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg. I wholeheartedly agree with you assessment of Jose's; Bone and I didn't have a great experience there either, and it was solely because of the food.

Although I wouldn't call them unique because I think there used to be one in Knoxville, the one place that I have ate in Gatlinburg recently that I really liked was a place called Best Italian Cafe. http://www.bestitalian.com
I wouldn't really call them cheap, but they're not bad either. The website has their menu along with prices for lunch and dinner. The pizza there was absolutely awesome as well as the appetizer of garlic rolls beforehand.

Best Breakfast would be 'FlapJacks'. Only open till 12pm though. On your left going towards PF right before the Super Wally World.

Good dinner would be 'Pops Catfish on the River'. I think they are open until 9pm. Will be on your right hand side before coming into Sevierville. Close to 'Sexy stuff' on hwy 66.

I suggest the stuffed flounder and deep fried corn on the cob @ Pops and the Southwest omlet @ Flapjacks.

Ever try the Apple Barn in Sevierville? They've changed the name to Applewood or something like that. There's two restaurants...we've always gone to the old farmhouse one. It's not the cheapest---expect $10 or so for an entree---but you get an enormous amount of food. They start you off with an apple julep (juice blend, YUMMY) and baskets of little apple fritters (look like hushpuppies) and apple butter that you can fight over.
I think the street you turn on is called Apple Barn, easy to find. The new Orvis is on the same street.
