impact suits and intelligent fabric

consider this a follow-up for the thread, armor up... but while it's been posted here before about nanotechnological fabrics, here is the first one that i've been able to find that is going to be available to civilians in the near future - est. september 06 - manufactured by d3o. currently available only to olympic athletes, this soft, flexible material hardens upon impact, protecting the wearer.

other examples of this theory (and products thereof) have been liquid armor, and as elasticwings pointed out, future warrior.

while the only civilian application being marketed thus far has been for winter sports, i believe i can see it expanding into other areas in the near future, such as motorcycle protective wear, contact sports, etcetera.

depending on how the molecules have been programmed, if it hardens with any intensity it could be like being fucked by a land mine.
