PRESS RELEASE
The Knox County Cemetery Preservation Association will hold its
Spring Cemetery Cleanup on Saturday, April 15, 9:00 a.m.-12 noon. Two
cemeteries, Longview Cemetery and Davenport Cemetery, have been
chosen for cleanups. The Davenport Cemetery is located near Stanley's
Greenhouse, Davenport Road, in south Knoxville, and 8-10 volunteers
needed. The Longview Cemetery is located off Keith Avenue on Richmond
Hill near Western Avenue, and 20-30 volunteers needed.
The mission of the Knox County Cemetery Preservation Association is
to identify, protect, restore, and preserve neglected and endangered
cemeteries in Knox County, Tennessee. Cemetery cleanups are held
twice a year in different parts of Knox County. It is hoped that
community groups and interested individuals will join in the cleanup
of historic cemeteries and will adopt a cemetery near them to
maintain permanently.
The Knox County Cemetery Preservation Association meets second
Tuesdays, 12:00 noon-1:00 p.m., at Knox Heritage, in the carriage
house behind the WBIR television station's Greystone Mansion on
Broadway Avenue in Knoxville. The next meeting is Tuesday, April 11,
and will be used to plan details of the cemetery cleanups. Everyone
is welcome to participate.
