I've seen alot of talk about things like that. It really sounds like it'd be loads of fun. Hmm...There are a few abandoned buildings in Oak Ridge, now that I think about it...

I think so....I took a drive down Tools Bend road last fall to go to a fishing spot there, and I continued down to where the church was that we used to park & walk to the old asylum. You couldnt see the building anymore from the new road & bridge. But, you can still see it from the river when you cross the Pellissippi bridge comming from the airport.......jeeze....I remember tripping on LSD in the late 80's and going out there on a full moon in the fall. It was all foggy and you couldnt really see that well. In the darkeness you heard all these sounds and huffing (the cows)...then you slowly saw the big stone building appear...sitting on the lake....we tried to have a seance there once too......a window fell out of its frame and crashed on the ground in the middle of it.....scared the shit out of us....especially tripping our balls off! Not to mention the old guy with a shotgun that would run you off if he saw you there.....pretty creepy! We did alot of that kinda thing back in the day.......

The firemen came and broke through the chimney top. And me and Mom were expecting them to pull out a dead cat or a bird. And instead they pulled out my father. He was dressed in a Santa Claus suit. He'd been climbing down the chimney... his arms loaded with presents. He was gonna surprise us. He slipped and broke his neck. He died instantly. And that's how I found out there was no Santa Claus.

Shit, here I am an archaeologist and I've encouraged people to go and fuck with the archaeological record.

If you explore any old historic buildings, please just be respectful and not vandalize or steal anything.

http://www.infiltration.org/ethics-nodisclaimer.html

Thats pretty good, but in some cases, just walking can cause damage! Yesterday an archaeologist from Scotland told us about various sites that are in danger because so much foot traffic causes major errosion.

Lots of these old abandoned buildings provide some excellent grounds to hunt ghosts. It's a shame that people vandalize these beautiful homages to days gone by. I did an overnight ghost hunt sponsered by the Louisville Ghost Hunters at Waverly Hills Sanitarium last September. Huge building, lots of paranormal activity. In fact, more activity in one night at WH than in my three years of steady ghost hunting with TN Ghost hunters around Middle TN combined. All that to say, we had a great time.

Click on the Waverly Hills link to read history.

Basically, an old TB Hospital that saw 68,000 people die under its roof. They actually filmed a horror movie there called Death Tunnel, and ended up putting out another film about all the paranormal experiences the crew encountered during the filming of the movie! It now has 24/7 security guards since the building was so far damaged by vandals that the estimated cost of restoration comes to $500 million. They do tours in the late summer/fall for $20 a pop, which is worth the 2hours you spend in the building. The money is split, half going to a local children's charity and the other half to the building restoration fund. In a year between visits they had put in windows on one wing of the 5-or-6-story building at an exspense of over a million dollars. Worth the drive if anyone ever wants to go!
