Ok.
The only coolness that I see is that Mayan astronomers could foresee the movement.
They missed the "convergence" by 14 years, but it was a good guess.
Otherwise, this guy sounds like a rambling fruitcake to me.
:?:

BTW, I predict a hit or close call from a major comet in 2012.

Lol... in that quote you're referring to, Benjamin Franklin forgot to mention the beginning of life, conception (can't die unless you were conceived to begin with... actually, I could go even further in depth...) and, for most who are lucky, bodily functions...
bastard must've fried a few too many neurons smoking opium and fooling around with that fucking kite experiment during lightning storms...

oh, if one is grown in a vat, i don't think 'conception' in the conventional sense applies. and it's none too certain that we won't be grown in vats in the near (say, 30 to 400 years - if not sooner) future. say, for example, to avoid having our embryos affected by massive amounts of radiation after WWIII.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Almost certainly related, that is, you know... if you ignore every single bit of archeological, historical, anthropological and genetic evidence.

And.. um... which structures defy explanation, exactly?

Wrong. There is substantial evidence for a link between the ancient Egyptian civilization and the Americas.

that 'essay' (the 2012 prophecies) was written by some quack trying to sell a book. I received it in a newsletter once.

I'd venture to say that the ancients had technologies that we don't. It's sort of obvious when one looks at the pyramids at giza. I tend to put my money on the theory that they were built using sound. That is, they somehow created vibrations in the earth (probably with huge horns) that helped to move the mountainous blocks up a miles long gradual incline to the top of the pyramid.

Interesting, but it's a lower level graduate paper, from a class completely unrelated to the topic of the course. I suspect it didn't get a good grade.

Got anything else, maybe at the doctoral dissertation level or better?

The paper itself is not the evidence. I don't need to produce anything more because all you need to do is look at what the paper cites, which are reputable sources.

Did you miss this paragraph?

"A bibliography of these early contacts is given by John Sorensen (1998) in the first issue of Pre-Columbiana. It is a good example of the kinds of evidence being uncovered by legitimate researchers and institutions. The bibliography is itself a condensation of a two-volume work of these publications and includes titles such as: The world's oldest ship? (showing evidence for a pre-Columbian ship in America) published in Archaeology; Peruvian fabrics (showing very strong similarities between Peru and Asia) published in Anthropological papers of the American Museum of Natural History; Robbing native American cultures: Van Sertima's Afrocentricity and the Olmecs (showing evidence for connections between Africa and the Olmecs of Middle America) published in Current Anthropology; Possible Indonesian or Southeast Asian Influences in New World textile industries (showing at least three textile-related inventions that appear in both Indonesia and the New World) published in Indonesian Textiles; and, Genes may link Ancient Eurasians, Native Americans, published in Science."

Of course, as with anything this theoretical and difficult to "prove", we could go on all day with me producing sources and you saying "That's nice, but show me something written by someone with more Experience Points." :D

Well, yes. That was an ad hominem attack.

But, the fact is that I don't have time to track down the works cited, and from what I did read, the contaminated sample theory sounds more plausible than a completely unsubstantiated theory that Egyptians traveled to America to get these drugs.

So I am going to ask for a source more reliable than a 500 level class paper that was off-topic for the course.

Here's the thing: I do not care even remotely what you believe on this subject. I'm perfectly happy with you not believing it. Thus I am most certainly not going to spend the time to dig up things to try and convince you.

If you care so much about not believing it, then feel free to dig up the arguments on both sides.

I was refuting Andy's assertion that there was literally zero evidence to support ancient Egyptian-American traffic. There provably is a non-zero amount of such evidence. I'm not even saying I believe either theory. I was just demonstrating that even a very casual search of the Internet would have allowed Andy to not make a statement which is entirely false.

OK. Non-zero, but very, very, small amount of conjectural evidence.

I second that emotion.

I don't think I should touch this with a ten-foot latex covered pole...
