motion detection software

this little whirly-gig turns your cheap little logitech webcam into a cheap little surveillance system. it supports logging into a mysql and/or postgressql db, and it's highly configurable, even up to the point of allowing one to run external programs on the event of motion beginning and/or ending - so, while it doesn't come with hardcoded ftp / pscp / sftp uploading functionality, such options are only a shell/perl/python/ruby/php/et al script away.
the fact that it also includes a groovy timelapse function doesn't hurt, either. (i.e., those trippy videos where one can actually view flowers bloom, grass grow, metal corrode, bodies decay, etc)
oh yeah, and it's free. installs and runs on linux and freebsd, the latter experimentally. (ubuntu whores, fire up synaptic and get your move on. )
