Damn, I guess some parents really do mean it when they say they will call the cops on you...

She said the boy likes attention and has a history of bad behavior. He has shoplifted from stores and stolen money from her, she said. The boy has also been inching toward expulsion from school, she added, and even punched a police officer last month. He was arrested for disorderly conduct in that incident.

She hoped the arrest would be a wake-up call for him. She dreads getting a phone call someday reporting he's been killed.

Sounds crazy, but after looking at the kid's rap sheet I'm not shocked she did that, and I'm also not shocked that getting arrested didn't phase him. I honestly believe that about after 10 or so years old, that just about any discipline is useless, it needs to be applied at an early age. Then again, I have no kids and no room to talk, so... bleh.

"On Monday night, the mother said she had her son arrested because she didn't know what else to do."

I have a few thoughts on this one.How bout instead of a gameboy you get the kid a lump of coal and give said gameboy to a needy kid.How bout instead of arresting him you get a hickory and beat the shit outta the kid.See back when i was that age i knew better than to hunt for presents on fear of my dad putting his boot in my ass.My mother was no push over either i stepped outta line and she made me go out to the tree out back and get a switch and then she would light up my ass.

How about taking it away? How about a little family therapy? How about chill the hell out & focus on the real problems (hitting an officer) & not a petty, childish act like sneaking an early gift? At least while he's gaming, he isn't getting into trouble. Sheesh!

I always got the hairbrush, and of course there's the wooden spoon. Spare the rod, spoil the child...plain and simple. It's worked for thousands of years, it'll work for a thousand more.

They should have arrested the mother and great-grandmother.

I'm sorry, calling the cops because the kid opened the present early is not sane behavior. Take the toy away from the kid, send him to his room, I don't think beating him is appropriate, but calling the cops is an order of magnitude worse.
