can someone explain to me why (i mean WHY) george mutherfucking michaels 'faith' was played?
I mean, damn. That's some goth ass dance music there!
To go from bad to worse-LIMP BIZKIT was in there too...
Then 'son of a preacher man'??
I like 'son of a preacher man' and all but DAYUM this is'nt
pulp fiction!
come on.
I don't mean to sound like i'm crackin' on people here but why not play..um..goth music...on goth night?
(#1 crush doesn't count)
And i know the response "if you don't like it you don't have to go"
but as far as i'm concerned let everyone listen to WHAM or Bee97.5 all night and gimme my five dollars back.
...Blue Cats', however, IS a nice place.

Not to sound like a flame, but maybe you should have another look at the flyer for Sanctus.

It says there will be retro and 80's music played. Those songs didn't empty the dance floor did they? The DJ's did a great job!

at any club on any night you are going to hear things that you don't like. don't focus on that. instead try requesting things you do like and if you actually try not to be an ass then chances are you will hear them. the rest of the time hang out and just have fun. if the music bothers you that much DON'T LISTEN TO IT!

I feel I'm part to blame for the Faith. See this is the sotry. At Hannah's the DJ likes to play Faith as done by George Micheal. Well one night me and Judas imitated the Limp Bizket version during the chorus. Bone was there and I suppose he started to get funny ideas.
If memory serves me correctly Judas was the one who first started screaming "Faiiiiiith"
I mean really what good is a goth scene if there's not a sense of humor.

Now, Tommy...you've been going to dark and spooky things for a looong time. And I'm pretty sure you know all the dj's.
You know that its not just "goth" music that gets played. Really, limiting it to "goth" is sorta silly. What about industrial, electronica, punk, rock, etc? I know that many "goth" bands don't label themselves as "goth". Goth isn't really one sound.
I would like more variation in the music, as we all would, but until I spend my money and time to learn the ropes of djing..I'll appreciate what we have.
Would you be complaining if Prince was played? Prince isn't goth.

Isn't there an 80's night for that stuff, a club night called SANCTUS hosted by KNOXGOTHIC, hmm sounds like people would tend to expect a goth night out of that. Seems the old schoolers are all sick of the same stuff being played that's why some of them aren't coming out anymore. Quite a few actually, they just don't say anything. Once the newbies hear the same stuff for the next 6 years they won't come out either then the scene will die again. What's wrong with progression? Evolution? This scene needs a huge enema.

I guess it's true. Goth is
not any
one sound. Neither is
LAME. I agree with Balance. Whether you agree with him or not, I should think it would quite behoove some to examine the fact that he activated his membership to express himself on this.

Personally i thought the DJ's did a great job, in my opinion they always do, i mean every song isn't goth, but like what's been said before it doens't have to be, there's more to asylum than the Goth scene. It's about having fun as well and certain songs are fun to dance to and a kick ass way to have fun, i mean personally i wouldn't say a word if a song by the Barenaked Ladies was played, i mean esspecially if it was Alcohol, which in my opinion is a drinking anthum!
Sorry to rant but there's more about Asylum than just goth music, it's about going out having fun, dancing and talk to people that you have at least something in common with.
But hey like always this is just my opinion, and like always take it for what it's worth.

Well, let me first point out, False Absolution, that "Asylum" is not what's being discussed here. Um, that closed awhile back.
I did not attend Sanctus this time. The reason I did not attend this time is because I was BORED OUT OF MY MIND the month before. The month before that, I had to DRINK MYSELF INTO A STUPOR to not be bored. The month before that, I was, once again....guess....I dare you.....yes, the answer is BORED. BORED BORED BORED. I was BORED.
Music the culprit? Not entirely. But, it does contribute to the BOREDOM when I hear the same shit EVERY TIME. I could place myself in any Sanctus from the last six months and not be able to tell the difference.
This does not mean that I don't enjoy my friends company who attend Sanctus. Quite the contrary, I enjoy it, just not at Sanctus. I like to be able to talk to my friends. I just can't do it there.

This was one of the reasons I liked this month at Blue Cats - you could walk out of the building to a
seated area where the music was only a dull roar in the background, and carry on a conversation that amounted to more than, "You like this song?", "What the fuck did you just say?!", and "Wow, that's an ugly dress!"
And if a song you
did like came on, you could always flee back inside and maybe get another beer, glass of wine, or what have you.

We're not going to censor you on this one, Balance.
It's a legitimate opinion. It's also one I happen to disagree with.
Sanctus is a dance night. It's not purely goth, it's not purely 80s, it's not purely industrial. Plenty of crap I hate gets played too.
But the group that is KnoxGothic.com has diverse tastes, and not everyone is going to be satisfied with every song.
There was music played that you did like, right? Try to focus on that.

I would gladly have traded some of the standards that I like (One Night in Bangkok, for instance) for one of my requests...
Maybe we could make a list of "standards" and limit the Djs to, say, three of them a Sanctus - total - changing each month.

You're missing the point of why the "standards" are played. Limiting the DJs to 3 a Sanctus would likely result in a dead dance floor - which in short order would result in no Sanctus for anyone to complain about.
The standards are here to stay - if you want them gone, convince everyone not to dance to them any more, then they'll go.

You're forgetting about burn out.
I'm too tired of Safety Dance to motivate to the dance floor, and I think I'm over One Night In Bangkok for a while, too. Since those will be standards at the 80's nights, can we give them a rest at Sanctus for a while? And these are songs I
like...
The DJs will be looking around in surprise when the floor dies suddenly during one of the standards after it's been played six months in a row.
Hence the suggestion of at least rotating the standards.
Plus, I *was* a bit selfishly disappointed not to here
any request I made (other than Glory Box, which was requested by another person as well) at my birthday Sanctus.
One, just one - maybe a Shriekback (other than Nemesis) - I'd have traded another song I liked, but have heard there too often, and am tiring of...

I haven't seen you complaining about #1 Crush when you've been on the dance floor during it.
Honestly, if it hadn't been for Arkady, Bone and Vader busting their asses at the last minute to secure us a new venue for this past month, there wouldn't have even been a Sanctus. I would tend to believe that "Thank Yous" were more in order for us having a place to go rather than complete bitching about the music.

Really, people thank the DJs all of the time, kiss their asses, etc.
People are expressing their opinions about things, not personally attacking anyone. It's not like I'm saying, "Jason wears women's underwear and stuffs with jelly donuts." Or, "Andrew would sell his granny for a quarter." Or, "Michael died three years ago and no one noticed." I mean, these are personal attacks....hey, this is fun!
