But then Cherry Moon like blew up in his face. Now granted i liked Around the world in a day, Lovesexy, Parade, and even the Batman stuff all those....(86, 87 and 89) were pretty much colossal flops. Well, Batman was huge, and i LOVE the batman album, but most people make fun of it. So....in retrospect, commercially, Prince only really RULED 1983, 84, 86 (with Parade) and technically 89.
.

Sign of the Times - 88-89, double cassette/cd. HUGE. Rasberry Beret - huge.

Living in minneapolis when prince was huge - priceless.

yes the sign o the times album was pretty big, it was the comeback that was then foiled by the lovesexy album, and then of course the batman thing. I left it out on purpose.

Raspberry Beret singly also did a good number, but it came off of the heels of Purple Rain, so honestly, it was gonna be big no matter what. (it is infact one of my more fav prince songs at that) but truely in marketing, if you feed someone a steak dinner every night for a year...then give them a piece of poop, and tell them it tastes the same, they'll fall for it at least once....i say once...name me another hit a real radio hit for the next 2-3 years.

(and before its said, pop life doesn't count, cus it wasn't a radio hit)

OK I am assuming the challenge was for any radio hits after Purple Rain besides Rasberrry beret but staying within the thread limits of the 80's....OK

Purple Rain was released in 1984.

Around the World in A Day was released in 1985 and excluding the hit Rasberry Beret.....there was also "Around the Worl in a Day" the single

After that PARADE was released in 1986 and contain the #1 single "Kiss". That song is still playing today.

Sign o' the times was released in 1987 and had the radio singles "U got the Look" (with Sheena Easton) and if not both of these, at least one of them were singles off of that album "I could never take the place of your man" and "If I was your girlfriend"

Lovesexy , released in 1988 had "alphabet St." Terrible video, catchy song. And one other song was released off of that album.

THe BATMAN soundtrack released in 1989, love it or hate it, had "Party man" and "Batdance" as singles

You can verify this information at
http://www.lyricscafe.com/p/prince.htm

now I could argue that Prince DID dominate the 80's, at least from 1983 on.......but I just couldnt get any hard facts about exactly how many singles prince released in the 80's . after and hour of searching I gave up. :-( But I counted 21 for madonna so if anyone can gimme an official singles count on Prince, that would be great.
Ben? why are there noodles inmy shoes? hmmmm?

fucking party man OWNS.....

just about as much as Trust.

This is SOOOOO not an anti prince thing. I'm just saying he wasn't the hit machine everyone thinks he is. But i would like to quote DMSR here:

I don't wanna be a poet
'Cuz I don't wanna blow it
I don't care 2 win awards
All I wanna do is dance
Play music sex romance
And try my best 2 never get bored

and THERE, my friends, you seem to have a basic grasp on everything he wanted/did do. I am a fucking HUGE prince fan. But hit wise...heres what cracked into the top 10 (from HIM) in the 80s

Controversy
1999
Little Red Corvette
Let's Go Crazy
Purple Rain
When Doves Cry
Raspberry Beret
Kiss
U Got The Look
Sign O The Times
Alphabet Street
Batdance
Party Man

those were the ones that cracked the top 10 (for what i could find) from 1980-1989

There were at least twice as many singles released. And of course the album that had the most hits on it? Purple Rain.

I will reinterate my point...i own EVERY prince album.....like 6 dvds, and have a fucking huge ass purple rain poster. I'm not the fan level of say, Xi, or Tommy....but, i know my shit. Hits never meant anything to me. I like the later content of 1999 myself.....And most of my more favorite Prince tunes are the lesser known ones. Scandelous from Batman for instance....i remember when i played that at 80s night last year, and everyone was like...who is this?

Good songs don't mean they're great hits.....and vice versa.

By The Way........

It will be up BY 8pm tonight.

Wasn't Coor born in the 80's? How old is she, 12? Seems to me there's no excuss NOT to "know the 80's" ... I mean, I was born in the 70's and I still know who was big in music then and that people liked to wear bell bottoms. Other than that, how much do we really NEED to know of any certain decade? j/w.
