Spay/Neuter your pets

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

Spay/Neuter your pets

Post by Sir Diddimus »

There is now a program to assist families with incomes less than $25,000 to spay/neuter their pets.

It looks like they give certificates out to those families to cover the costs involved.

More here.

How cool...

However, I believe it may be too late for my doggie...

Will they pay for a doggie abortion and then fix her?? lol

Oh, now you tell me...I just had my cat spayed a few days ago and spent too much money for it. :-(

Oh well, I was ready to spend every last penny I had to make her stop crying all night long. BTW she's back to normal now, thank gawd!

The Animal Spay and Neuter clinic on Magnolia does spays for 27.00 and neuters for 17.00. It is very important to spay and neuter .If you go to the pound you'll see how many animals are waiting for a good home...and most of them will never get it. :-( Also, people like me wont keep having to take in strays...i already have 10 cats, 7 dogs and 3 ferrets!!! That's enough!

does anyone know anything about that particular clinic? i have 2 females that need to be spayed. i haven't done it yet because its such an invasive surgery, i fear something might go wrong despite the fact that its a routine procedure. i just worry. i want to know that a damn good doctor is doing my pet's surgery.

Ok heres how it works. Take proof of income (Less than 25,000 or a child on the school lunch program) on saturday between 11 and 4 To the Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley and they will approve you and give you a coupon for the fix-a-pet clinic on chapman hwy. their website is here
http://www.fix-a-pet.com
You have 30 days to use that coupon and get your pet fixed
It is on Chapman hwy in seymour and it is not a full service veterinary clinic.......the ONLY thing they do is fix pets and nurture them back to health. at the website you can even see the pictures of the clinic......good luck and maybe I will see some of you guys down there on saturday.

Your pet MUST be up to date on all of its shots at the time of surgery especially rabies or they will update them for you and you HAVE to pay for that.

The clinic on Magnolia has been around for years. It is full service, so they also treat sick pets too. I had several of my pets done there years ago with no problems. I dont use the clinic now but pay outrageous amounts to take care of my babies just because i love my vet at All Paws on Western Ave. She is so good that id trust her to spay me!She has now saved 3 of my cats lives!Remember all my cats were rescues and some of them started out really poorly.

I took Sugar pie to get fixed yesterday at the clinic...its a bit of a drive but well worth it......there are other options you may choose as well as spay/neutering. I had her microchipped for 30 extra which is pretty cheap (and the only recognized proof in a court of law that a pet is rightfully yours now) I picked her up after 4 oclock and she was alert and did not appear to be in pain. they assured me that they built the facility on the premise of Low Cost, not Low Care........there are three vets ...but only 1 works per day. It is one day later and although her scar is a bit tender....she is up running around and playing like not much is wrong. The incision is very small and is already healing...... She was a bit dizzy from the anesthesia but jsut fine now.....I HIGHLY recommend this facility..I got to see the entirety of it, and it is very clean. The caretakers are very nice and VERY animal friendly...as well as very educated (more so than I expected from a a tech) about pain management and the care of your pet..........PM me if you need more details as I willingly took a handful of flyers to give out about their services, cost (if you dont qualify for the assistance)

and actually...they can fix your pet if its already pregnant.......(.better a pet abortion than 8 puppies with no homes.) or if it is in heat.

They also give a discount if you get your pet fixed pediatrically (before their adult canines come in.

Oh sorry.......It was the http://www.Fix-a-pet.com clinic in seymour. You may go there during the week after one and apply for the spaying and or =neutering....or you may also go to the Tennessee Valley humane society, and apply there on Staurdays between 11 and 4.

and I have a dog...I dunno if I said that......and she is doing just fine.....she was up running around the next day like nothing had happened. her last stitch should fall out anytime, which will be awesome, becasue I can bathe her then.........

We've had troubles with the Magnolia clinic. I've had several experiences with them over the years, & I've found their services to be, at best, adequate, at worst, horrible. Our oldest male cat, Priapus got fixed down there. He came home bleeding, alot, & when I called them back to ask what to do, they blew me off.

Maybe it was simply a bad employee, but I've never forgiven their poor quality. In some situations, you really do get what you pay for. Central Vet Hospital is a bit more expensive, but if it's more than just a shot or a bath, you really want quality professionals doing the work.

The voucher or certificate thing sounds great, though. Thanks for the info, Sir D! :D

I have had a bad experience with Central Vet too but only after I had been using them for years......The Vet there is good but the staff is less than adequeate.......I took my other dog there when he fell off the couch and hurt his leg.....he was screaming in pain in the lobby for more than 30 minutes. They made no attempt to take him in any faster than the other patients that were there for a checkup and up running around fine and offered no assistance for his pain.. He ended up with a torn ligament and a doggie cast/sling....but only after we left and raced to Dogwood Animal Hospital (which was near our house). On two other occasions they have been very accomadating on an emergency basis...and he also recommended the fix a pet place. I use Dogwood Animal Hospital now on Chapman Hwy......I drive all the way from Oak ridge for it. On sugar pie's first visit I was there for an hour and a half....because they took a cat that had been hit by a car in front of me....I would have insisted on it had they told me....Hes so good to my dog I didnt mind at all.

Please dont take your buisness away due to my experience....but be aware that maybe you should think twice about taking them on an emergency case.

Yeah, they do have a pretty high turnover rate at Central, so the front desk help isn't as consistent as the vets themselves. In emergency situations, I've taken critters to the Pet Emergency Clinic (I think that's what it's called) just off 17th street. It's expensive, of course, but very professional & extremely humane.

The person I've always heard the best things about is Dr. Butler in Karnes. He's supposed to be a saint... especially if you're on a fixed income.

Abby's mom's a vet, but I'm not sure which clinic she works with.
