The goth community Here in Newcastle UK as requested!

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

The goth community Here in Newcastle UK as requested!

Post by bauhausfiend »

Goth over here is very rare. I personally know about two people that are goth. I to anyone in the street do not look goth at all. I could just be another common person to them. I do not dress 'dark' exactly. I do wear black tops and jeans constantly oh and a bauhaus bela shirt but many do not realise that im into goth.
The term 'goth' i dislike unless used as a lit category. But i dont mind the term 'gothic' when refering to a person. Say for example "he is goth" id prefer, "he is gothic looking".

The gothic community here in the UK Newcastle comprises of one pub that does a goth night once a week. Im yet to visit it as im under 18. I do not think that i will ever go there as i have heard tales that they play nu-metal and allsorts of Less than Jake turdulence. They are meant to play Bauhaus and ASF now and again but id rather not go to a place filled with overdressed 'skankdancers' and the smell of underaged drinkers being sick all over each other. Some may like that but i dont.

The pictures of your goth night look very touchy feely which i personally do not like unless with a person i truly love. A lot of the men do look like man whores to be completely honest. Im just being judgemental though. So i dont know the truth.

If i ever come over to Knoxville with my love, ill be sure to come over unless its membership only or i could meet in one of your coffee houses. On one condition, they serve tea and crumpets. Kidding.

Theres a place over here called 'the hippy green' which one day ill write a story about.

It is filled with all kinds of music fans. I used to go there as a heavy metal fan a few years back but i found salvation in Bauhaus and ASF eventually. Over here people are classed as 'hippies' or 'goths' aslong as they look strange which is a load of sheeps bollocks. Theres not one goth at the green at all.

I cant be bothered talking about that awful place. Brings back shameful memories of idiots prancing round in baggy pants.

The whole romanticism associated with goth is gone in my eyes. Well i do know that it doesnt leave the bedroom anyways.

Romanticism is bad unless you were brought up like that. If you are acting a different person then being part of the romanticism scene or whatnot is very fucked up. Go find a fucking theatre you thespian.

Thats enough from me, now you bunch of gothic skum tell me about your community please!

By the way that was a joke. Or was meant to be. (not many find me saying that humourous.

the first time I was ever refered to as being goth was when I was in England and it seemed to be quite prevelant (maybe just your town has a small contingent.) And until about 5 years after getting back to the states did I learn that the description was used here also  . As for the local sceen my DDs got married so now dont go out any more and I cant aford cabs (probably couldnt afford the night at the club either :-( ) So All my newest info would be from the lava lounge era. Actually here we aspire to be man whores (and mostly fail). And I pretty sure your not required to touch any one (not sure ;) ), except for incedentall contact on the dance floor (females will disagree and have problems when dancing). Sorry I couldnt help much, You might have wanted to put this in general might have gotten a better response.

I'm always happy to get posts from people in other communities describing the scenes there.

You might find tea in our coffeehouses, but I don't think I've ever seen crumpets. But feel free to show up anyway if you make it to the states.

I've moved this thread to General, as more people will see it that way.

Actually I do believe the nearest scenes/venues to you are in Leeds or Edinburgh, when you reach of age you should go and check them out. I had a friend in Manchester with your same problem...

i have had crumpets at 11th street, but they were only so-so. but, you may want to bring your own tea, as the tea here would not be what you are used to. last i knew, british teas were much stronger than what we get here. we had family in england, and they used to send us teas. so wonderful!

First of all, I really enjoyed your views.

Not to be picky, but the term "Gothic" is a literary genre, not "Goth." Goth is slang referring to a subculture. Sorry, I'm a cranky English Lit major. ;)

Interesting. I can't say that I disagree. But they say the US is too "sex obsessed" anyways.

I thoroughly njoyed ur wordz on ur Goth scene.

Never really considered myself terribly Goth or even spent much time around such a community b4 ... been 2 a coupla lame Goth nitez with a dozen or 2 peepz b4 n other placez.

Since settling n2 Knoxville, I'v played on this board, met many ov it'z memberz, & danced thru a # ov Sancti & had a ball. There will alwayz b a few prickz, az we r a thorny lot; but that, it seemz, iz an nescapable human foible.

Better not disrespect our "man whorez", az many can pack a mighty man whore slap :!: ;-) I, personally, quite njoy theze aesthetic sensibiltiez.

I also believe whole-heartedly that 1 can live past their upbringing. Where u cum from iz not all ov who/what u r. If u r a romantic, b a romantic ... if u r a (whatever u r), be that ... just b u, & keep ur eyez open 2 wayz ov growing & mproving urself.
If u r such a vamp, then bite me, bitch!

I understand the lit thingy yeah. But it all fixes together somehow!?!?!?!... as for what i need to know, I have a few questions for you.

Right...

1. Are people noticed as goths over there for the simplest reasons for example, a person sees a man in the street with a Korn hooded fleece coat on and the man says oh look at that goth!

Is it as bad as that over there?

2. Is there many mansonites over there who claim to be goth just as they like manson and who dress like clowns maybe?

3. Is there a place over there like ours where people go to and call themselves goth where theyre only a few actual goths that visit that place?

4. Are the knoxygoths!?!!?!!? as elaborate and flamboyantly gay as they look in the photos?!?!?!!?!?!

Right there you go a few questions to be answered by any one who wishes to answer them for me! Give me some information on the people that go there please if you can.

I want to know who is sort of like the King Goth ?!?!?!?! that goes there.

Please answer that.

I have to agree with blindboy. Most of the members of this board who have reached any level of maturity could give a shit less how "Goth" they look. And most will express an aversion to labeling. The people who attend Santus are a mix of a younger and older crowd, all with different tastes in music and different styles of dress.

As someone mentioned before, it sounds like you are in a small city and probably have little exposure to the subculture. Besides, didn't you mention that you are too young to get into the clubs? The scene here is large and diverse. There are other clubs in town that sport "elaborate and flamboyantly gay " folks as well, which I assume would make you more uncomfortable than the pics of Sanctus.

I don't have any problem with your posts, but I would be careful when throwing around statements that could be construed as insults. We will be more than happy to answer your questions as long as you ask nicely.
Sure, I'll try to be nicer, if you try to be smarter.

Troll?!?!?!?!

I think not. I am not trying to label people here at all. Im just not used to the way people see each other over there as there are big cultural differences when it comes to goth or whatever you want to call it. No i am not some troll at all. if i were such a troll would i be listening to bauhaus constantly and specimen etc?!?!?! i think not.

So cmon tell me how im a troll. Maybe, yes i am an ugly thing that lives under a bridge but im not a faker.

I understand that it is not right to label people. I just tend to when i do not know everything about a certain group of people. I do have little exposure to the goth scene but to be honest id rather not be part of any scene.

I do like talking to people about scenes etc but i wouldnt consider myself as part of one. The people that i know arent really into goth much. The majority are into harsh noise like Merzbow and Hanatarash. Some are into industrial like Throbbing Gristle and their likes.

I wont throw around digs at anyone dont worry. Im just trying to find out things about the TN goth scene if you even wish to call it a scene.

I do judge people individually, but it is hard when the population is filled with idiots mainly. I am Michael.

I want to be able to know some of the people there before i go over. But in some ways im unsure because each statement i make has me branded a cunt!

no, not that i have ever noticed.

Is it as bad as that over there?

define bad. define that. if you're reffering to the 1st ?, then no its not.

2. Is there many mansonites over there who claim to be goth just as they like manson and who dress like clowns maybe?

yup, plenty of those

3. Is there a place over there like ours where people go to and call themselves goth where theyre only a few actual goths that visit that place?

not places, but events( usually held in the same place). i guess it depends on what you consider to actually be "goth". i'm definitely not. true, i usually wear black when i go out to a club or whatever and i have a few "gothic' pieces in my wardrobe, but anyone that knows me can tell you that i am more the antithsesis(sp?) of goth

4. Are the knoxygoths!?!!?!!? as elaborate and flamboyantly gay as they look in the photos?!?!?!!?!?!

you prolly saw the pics we took one night when a bunch of obnoxious and flamboyant gays showed up. very unusual. atleast, i've never seen them there, but once, since i've been attending.

Right there you go a few questions to be answered by any one who wishes to answer them for me! Give me some information on the people that go there please if you can.

if i were to name a king goth, i would nominate the fallen. the first time i met him i thought that he had definitely staped the backs of both hands to his forehead.

The name Amerikuntt comes from my old band. I used to be in a band called that, that is all. I tend to use my old band names as signatures. Im not playing tit for tat here.
