So, if money were no object...(warning for 56kers: Pics)

Post by Nephilim »

So, if money were no object and maintainance, insurance and all that were not an issue.....

What would be your top 5 vehicle purchases and why (can be any motor-vehicle..so if you REALLY want that 2-stroke, pedal-start scooter, list it)? Any car, any time-period....it doesn't matter. What would you HAVE to own? What cars do you see a picture of (or in real life) and just have to stop and drool for a bit?

This was actually kind of hard for me to narrow down to 5 since my tastes in cars (and motorcycles) range all over the place, but here goes:

1. 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO
Image
Why? Well, for one thing, I think the design of this cars is just plain sexy. Plus, it was with this model that Ferrari won the Le Mans 24 hours race. I think it was the only time they won it, too.

2. 1966 Aston Martin DB6
Image
Three words: James fucking Bond.

3. 1964 Shelby Cobra
Image
I have always loved these...it's a roadster with a 427 engine. Need I say more?

4. 1967 Ford GT40 MkIII
Image
Again, this is a car that I find just damn sexy. It goes like a bat out of hell, and it's a classic.

5. 2001 Pagani Zonda C12 S
Image
First time I ever saw one of these was playing Gran Tourismo 3. It's unique and fast. What more can I say?

I'll have to second the Cobra. I know a guy who drove one in a retro race once, and said it demanded quick, precise, and correct inputs at all times or it would bite you.

To that I'd add:

Image
The Vincent Black Shadow. The first of the fastest. (This is a 1955 D Model) Look it it. It's just evil.

Image
The Norton Commando Fastback. I rode one of these once, and the sound of a brit twin is quite sexy.

Image
The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R. The weight of the 6R, the power of the 12R. A monster. It'd probably kill me, but I'd die happy.

Image
The Honda GB 500 Tourist Trophy. British looks, japanese reliabilty. Plus you have to have something to commute on that you can leave parked out front and not worry about.
Let's get down to brass tacks. How much for the ape?

I won't steal from your list and mine are in no particular order.

Image
1949 Mercury Coupe

Only chopped and channeled WAY down on the ground. Painted in flat black.

Image
1964 Shelby Daytona

The Cobra was already on the list but this one needs to be there too.

Image
1963 Corvette Grand Sport

There are only 5 of these cars. That picuter is the first time those cars where in the same place at the same time since they left racing almost 30 years ago.

Image
1968 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona

This car was driven in the 1971 Cannonball by none other than Brock Yates and Dan Gurney. They set a record breaking time of 35 hours 54 minutes. It was later surpassed but still coast to coast in under 36 hours thats freaking amazing.

Image
2005 Corvette Convertable. What ever model will have the big motor.
There is no replacement for displacement.

You know...I was thinking, that Pagani doesn't really fit into my choices. It would seem evident from the rest of my list that I have a weakness for small, fast, entirely impractical cars (much like my Miata  ).

So to rememdy this, I'm going to add a car that I have been lusting after for far longer than the Zonda.

The Lotus Exige

Legendary Lotus handling. How can I resist with the twisties in Deal's Gap so close by?

Not to mention that H.S.T. has a soft spot for them. :D I'll have to second that one.

Top of the list would be the Shelby Cobra.
Second would be a Hum-V complete with gun mount on top. Forget the civilian crap.
Those are the main ones actually, anything else would be a bonus.
Was I just here?
