The firemen came and broke through the chimney top. And me and Mom were expecting them to pull out a dead cat or a bird. And instead they pulled out my father. He was dressed in a Santa Claus suit. He'd been climbing down the chimney... his arms loaded with presents. He was gonna surprise us. He slipped and broke his neck. He died instantly. And that's how I found out there was no Santa Claus.

Hey Morgan...
What do you think of this idea? I really like the idea of the name Brights that's been floating around. I'm thinking of making a t-shirt that has a light bulb on it and below it says something like, "I doubt it."
There's some t-shirts that say "The Future is Brights," but they're ugly.
I'm trying to think up a better phrase, though...

Gee I've been called bright all my life, now I can join a club, lol.
"I doubt it"- I like it, but you'd probably be questioned constantly about it.
Tonight I wore out my "don't pray, it doesn't work" shirt and I got so many more compliments than people trying to preach at me.
I don't think the right wing Xtians want to accept how large a community the non believers are.
You know what I'd design if I was all design-savvy like you....bumper stickers that have traffic laws on them. Because I think 75 percent of the drivers in Knoxville know things like "right on red" or "if a traffic light is out, pretend its a four way stop sign" type things, lol.

At first glance when the page popped up I caught "various stages of undress" and then "James Randi" and I couldn't help but thinking, I love the guy, but do I think THAT freely?
Calendar sounds cool, but I think I like Asher's.

"NO one expects the Spanish Inquisition!"
(Aw, quit groaning, you know someone HAD to...)
It was the winter of my heart's desire, the spring of my autumnal fancy, the summer of my discontent; all in all, I think it was Monday.

I'd hate to have brains growing out of MY chest...
(Jk... I just had to post a dork-ass joke that exudes no real humor whatsoever... don't believe I did that today yet... )

True, but...
"A person is never happy except at the price of some ignorance."
Anatole France (1844 - 1924)

I don't know who said this but I heard it from a friend the other day -
I think questioning things will only help you discover the truth or strengthen one's faith. Both are postivie outcomes.
Me, I'm happier knowing there is no god. Otherwise I'd be miserable thinking of getting punishments for my sins and I'd be constantly angry that a loving all powerful god would let the things happen that he does.
Ignorance is not bliss but unconscious slavery.

Yeah, it IS just as bad not questioning anything and going about life in a constant state of unawareness... I just added that quote because I happened to see it the other day, and it contradicted that quote appropriately... I do think that SOME ignorance (but only to a certain extent) is what it takes to be happy though...

HPG: Wait... I think I'm misunderstanding you.
Are you saying the Anatole France quote contradicts the Edmund Way Teale quote?
Anatole France was revered as a skeptic. His work was even banned by the Catholic church as being dangerous to faith.

Yeah... I'm not sure how Anatole France's background and lifestyle are all that pertinent to the quote though... it's pretty direct, doesn't seem to be cryptic or anything...

I dunno. I actually read it as saying that in order to be happy you have to give up ignorance...
