I gotta agree there. But I haven't been as impressed with Ginza as I have Nama, but I have some friends that know the sushi chef there by name now and always talk about how nice they are.
Nama is strange in that all the folks there are caucasian except one korean guy, and I used to avoid places like that (mexican places with white folks) because they generally can't make it well, but everything I've ordered from Nama has been fabulous. I have some friends that work there and they use grade A fresh fish.
I went to Tomo a few weeks ago after avoiding it for ages because of the horrid service. Again, they pissed me off, by trying to charge 10 for someone opening an outside bottle of wine (they aren't that nice a restaurant, c'mon) and adding gratuity for me and my son because we we came in and sat with a group of 8 that had been there a long time. I thought that was ridiculous. I have had more bad food bad service experiences at Tomo than I can count.

Nama has always been terrible when I've eaten there. The fish tasted like it had been sitting on a counter all day. Blech.
Tomo has a very nice atmosphere, IMO. Though I'm sure you anti-smoking nazis would disagree. Eh, hardcoregirl? The sushi is okay, but their noodle dishes are better.
Ginza is hit or miss. If you stick with the simple rolls, it's great. But I don't get the point of the roll with the sour cream Pringles. It doesn't even taste like sushi; it tastes like... Pringles, obviously. Beware the conveyor belt sushi. I've seen people stick their fingers in the food as it passes by.

Does sound kind of discusting, now that you mention it... but it's worth a try................ I guess...
I used to refuse to eat Chinese food (very picky eater, don't even like ketchup/mustard/etc.), but now I crave the buffet a lot, so... who knows, could be a new fave or something...

That's called hibachi.
No, Nama and Tomo are sushi restaurants. Nama has pretty much just sushi and beer, Tomo has other japanese foods (loved their tofu yakisoba til I got a piece of chicken gristle in it). Ginza has seperate sushi bar from the hibachi section, but we usually sit at the hibachi section and my boyfriend gets hibachi and I order sushi or a bento box...

Try Nama. I work about three blocks from there and a couple of us from work go once every couple of weeks. The sushi is really good, the wasabi is very hot, the service is good and the pricing is reasonable. Fact is, several of us are going this coming Friday. Anticipation makes it better!

You can get all you need to make sushi down at the Oriental Super Mart I think it's called down on Sutherland Ave. Just need the bamboo mat, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and seaweed. After that all you need is to make the rice, choose what goodies you want to fill it with, then roll and slice. Anybody wants to buy the stuff, call me up and I'll come over and teach ya, always in the mood for sushi!

I live within walking distance, and yeah , you can get what you need, but somehow its still not as good as restaurant sushi. My rice is always a little off, and I just make avocado roles. I don't know much about cutting fish yet.

The rice is the most onerous part, gotta get it juuuuust sticky enough. They have a delicious frozen eel there, thaws out in about 2 min in the microwave, already cooked, with some strips of cucumber and carrot and avocado is mucho yummy.

Tomo has good days and bad days. The good days are pretty good, the bad days, well you might get still-frozen tuna or sea urchin, or something that's been around a few hours too long.
I've had pretty consistently good luck with Myabi and Nama. I haven't tried Ginza, the conveyor belt thing just seems too gimmicky to me, and they have really crappy commercials.
