Personally, i don't think that will be the case at all.
i will try to find a link i saw on cnn earlier talking about that. there is still about the same amount of legislation past when control is split.

i will point out, that this is how the system is designed to work to begin with. Its called checks and balances.

and besides, even if no work gets done, its better than the wrong work getting done.

i just fear that in this time the dems want blood more so than they want any work to get done.i really hope im proven wrong but i really do fear the days ahead.Just some benchmarks to leave you with
gas is back under 2.00 dollars most places in the state. No attacks on the nation since 9/11/01.Unemployment is at an all-time 4.4% low.Dow Jones Industrial Average at an all-time high.If any one of these numbers goes south, if any one of them goes south, we will know who to hold responsible.

the president?

i still think that it was sort of convenient that the gas prices dropped right before elections, when most of the oil companys back republican office holders.

honestly, i don't think that the 9/11 attacks would of happened if it was not for the republicans foreign policy of sticking their nose where it does not need to be.

dude, i hate to call you out...but you KNOW better, so i'll do it so others won't have to.

In the 90s we paid under a DOLLAR for gas....ok, it will never go back to .89 cents a gallon....but doesn't it seem weird, 2000 rolls around, and gas goes up well at that point 100% inside of a year and a half? Thats not a shortage, thats a stickage.

Unemployment? Bah, who's counting...and if you are, dude, go get a job, since you are part of said 4.4 percent.

No Terrorist attack? well shit, it took somebody 3 months shy of 50 years to attack the states, not that we're like all powerfull...but the us, is sorta like that big bully at school...ya know, the one that COULD actually fuck your ass up, if you weren't his lackey. Sure, you can get the first punch in, but, we're gonna stick a foot in your ass. People have learned that....even if thats like, what their god tells them to do.

i dunno man...i mean, ya knows i love ya and everything, but really, sure you vote, but do you have anything to do with politics? you don't pay taxes, your money has been given to you, you don't impose on rights that could be threatened.

Sure, i can't piss and moan, cus i don't vote, but i don't vote, cus i don't pay attention to taxes, i don't do anything that my rights could be imposed on, and really nothing (at least since i've become of age, minus gas prices) has fucked with my way of life.

again, giant douche, turd sammich.
I'm a big bright shining star......

judas,

Republicans have a habit of taking credit for the good things that democrats did but that didnt' come into fruition til the democrats were gone. For example, this country was in good shape when Clinton left office and the good things that he did came more into view during Bush's first 4 years of tyranny. Clinton left us with a balanced budget. Gas prices, yeah, talk to all the republicans with money in oil. Why don't you look at who is responsible for the 9/11 attack because they ignored the signs? No, there haven't been attacks on the nation mostly because we are over in their playground, so they just suicide bomb our troops. So the economy is doing well, I don't think that republicans can take all the credit for that. Have you seen the debt G.W has put us in lately? http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/

Jason: I fucking *love* that graphic :)
The firemen came and broke through the chimney top. And me and Mom were expecting them to pull out a dead cat or a bird. And instead they pulled out my father. He was dressed in a Santa Claus suit. He'd been climbing down the chimney... his arms loaded with presents. He was gonna surprise us. He slipped and broke his neck. He died instantly. And that's how I found out there was no Santa Claus.

Although I don't agree with you, Judas, I believe it is important that we all express our opinions freely so long as we respect each other. I know this is a touchy issue for a lot of people. I think good changes are ahead. That's just my take.

Not just a balanced budget, but zero deficit, and a budget surplus of over $200 billion. A surpluss which *could* have been used to, say, fix Social Security (which is what it was earmarked for). A surplus which Bush burned through within his first year in office... and has since manged to reverse into a deficit over $400 billion.

X: Not to sound like a Republican pundit, but as for America being attacked, you're forgetting that the WTC was attacked by Al-Qaeda in 1993.

i don't care if your a dem or rep. (i happen to be neither as I hate the party system, i just usually vote dem) one party should not control the presidency, the senate and the house. That removes all checks and balances.

I'd disagree. The checks and balances are built into the system, and dominance of party was certainly considered as our model of government was being created and evolved. Historically, there have been several times when the majority of the Legislature was from the same party as the Executive. And in most cases it's worked fine.

The reason it has been so bad for this administration is that the party dominance became a priority (if not *the* priority) for the party in charge. There have been several actions they have taken which fall well outside of their jurisdiction and have attempted to marginalize the judiciary and increase the power of the presidency.

There was a really great article in the NYT just before the election which touched on this specific thing:

For us, the breaking point came over the Republicans’ attempt to undermine the fundamental checks and balances that have safeguarded American democracy since its inception. The fact that the White House, House and Senate are all controlled by one party is not a threat to the balance of powers, as long as everyone understands the roles assigned to each by the Constitution. But over the past two years, the White House has made it clear that it claims sweeping powers that go well beyond any acceptable limits. Rather than doing their duty to curb these excesses, the Congressional Republicans have dedicated themselves to removing restraints on the president’s ability to do whatever he wants. To paraphrase Tom DeLay, the Republicans feel you don’t need to have oversight hearings if your party is in control of everything.

You can read the rest of the article online.

Basically, the Republicans of this Congress have busied themselves ignoring, defying, and attempting to remove the checks and balances. Don't forget about things like the time they wanted to change the rules of filibustering to make it impossible for the Democrats to do so (remember "The Nuclear Option?").
