The Electric Ballroom has been sold.
The Electric Ballroom has been sold.
I know some of you already know but I am sure most of you don't. A few weeks ago, the owner of Blue Cats and his 2 partners bought the the building and property currently known as The Electric Ballroom. It is to be renamed and remodeled and turned into a real live music and special events venue. Think Blue Cats on steroids.
When will the Ballroom close?
Currently, I don't know for sure. I'd guess it's going to be in the next couple of weeks but again, I don't know for sure.
What about Temple?
Fliers handed out at The Ballroom last night indicated that Temple will move to The French Quarter.
What about WIF?
I don't know but I know Jay is working on it.
I'm sure as more info is available, Jay will update us from his end as will I.

Well...hrm.
I don't much care for bluecats (though the sound is always good ). I think its just the physical layout of the place...but maybe they can do something good with it.
The EB....could use a little cleaning up, lol. I guess all clubs/bars have to be disgusting, but it seems extra gross. I guess Fairbanks spoiled me or something. I would have sat on the floors there without worrying about getting spooge on me.
****
I guess thats why they air conditioned the place.
Well cool, I kinda like the French Quarter, but I'm curious about how the saturday night WLB shows and Temple will coincide. I didn't think that WLB and temple did things together anymore.
But extra bonus...it takes me about 5 minutes to walk to the French Quarter...I really like the courtyard too.

Based on the work I'm personally doing I'd say the ballroom will be closed by the second week of July but, that's just an educated guess. Expect a complete remodel of the inside and a top notch sound system.necrosynthesis wrote:The Electric Ballroom will be open as it is at least through July, to my understanding.

More shit that temple occurs there, id like to point out. KN throws our shit there. Loopd productions throw killer shit there. Lots of local music plays there. The Knox Rap stuff happens there to my understanding.
Its a pretty hard time for all of us that gotta go to new places to get booked after having such an easy time there, knowing everyone, ect. Temple will have the easiest time staying booked. Others are gonna have problems.
My hearts out to all the other promoters and acts that are wondering where they are gonna go to now.
I guess everythings gotta evolve though. Theres a part of this town that really is gonna hate seeing it go.
Im definitly in that part.
RIP.

I know you were trying to "own" us, but you didn't have to go this far!Arkady wrote:Based on the work I'm personally doing I'd say the ballroom will be closed by the second week of July but, that's just an educated guess. I'm maintaining all event bookings through July per request of my employer. While either one of us could be correct, let's please not jump the gun in order to be fair to the promoters and bands that are currently booked.
Only a few besides myself will ever understand the amount of love and pride that went into the Electric Ballroom. That will never be replicated. Having said that, I actually look forward to seeing the room properly remodeled in a way that I only dreamed of. I only wish I could have done it myself.
Boy, have I caught it about the owning comment lately.necrosynthesis wrote:I know you were trying to "own" us, but you didn't have to go this far!Arkady wrote:Based on the work I'm personally doing I'd say the ballroom will be closed by the second week of July but, that's just an educated guess. RE Bookings: Ah, ok, cool. I certainly wasn't trying to mess it up for anyone. Please keep us posted if anything changes and feel free to add events to the KG calendar ect.
No, I dig the time and love that you put in. Kudos.

I wish they'd turn it into something as nice as The Orange Peel. No smoking even. But that's dreaming...
But it'd be cool to have a place for known bands to play that isn't as pricey as the Tennessee Theatre.
*wistfully remembers Fugazi playing there in 1996*
I think this could be a very good thing.
Maybe you can convince them to take the stupid cages out. So we won't have to witness overly rotund drunk girls shaking it, and none of us will ever have to see Diana Cancer show her twat all around again.

Oh, the cages are coming home with me! (after thorough cleaning of course)
Word has it that all public spaces, including bars, will probably be non-smoking by the end of fall, so you'll more than get your wish, Hardcoregirl.
I remember seeing Danzig there in '94. His pants split wide open at the crotch during his performance. I never could take him seriously ever since.
another piece of random history: the toilets are all from the main restrooms of the World's Fair.

Yeah I think my friend called me after that Danzig show and told me she kissed Glen. I was like "ewwww".necrosynthesis wrote:Oh, the cages are coming home with me! (after thorough cleaning of course)

Yay on the non-smoking! I hate it that when I go to bars and go to see most shows, my eyes are burning and watering halfway through the show. It doesn't make it very much fun, especially when I paid the same ticket price as those who do smoke. I mean I know smoking and drinking sort of go together...but courtyards are good for that.
Seeing the Cramps, Concrete Blonde and Death Cab for Cutie at the Orange Peel were all pretty pleasant experiences for me without the smoke.
Wow so those toilets are 25 years old. No wonder they are in such rough shape..hehe.

The new smoking laws will not effect bars that are 21+necrosynthesis wrote:Oh, the cages are coming home with me! (after thorough cleaning of course)

I suddenly see a whole lot of bars no longer admitting the 18-20 year olds. Also anywhere that has an outdoor area/patio can be considered a smoking area.

The last time I was in Arizona, the city of Scottsdale had already had a law against smoking in bars for a few years.
While I was there, I went to a fetish night. The club had ashtrays everywhere. They didn't go unused. No one seemed concerned in the slightest about the law.
I also have a friend in California - the place where the non-smoking laws started. He didn't have any trouble finding a smoking bar.
It seems that most cops smoke...

We are all atheists about most of the gods that humanity has ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further.
