LAME!!!!! (Lock now-only a matter of time)
OK. I'm glad i printed all those pages off because i'm betting that "WTF censor me now" thread will be deleted soon.
Sometimes there's being diplomatic and other times you just have to cut to the chase. I'm going to name names and alienate myself, but i really don't give a fuck. I'm gonna say what's on my mind.
Quit playing lame shit!!
If i didn't care i wouldn't say a thing.
Jason. The reason it's come up 4 times in 2 years is because of me. It's been me initiating this conversation. It needs to be done. And the flippant "old point" attitude perpetuates the problem. It's just buying time to nourish lameness. Furthermore i can't BELIEVE (well, yeah i can) that thread was locked. That's pathetic. Unbelievable.
Just shows someone can't handle disussion. Also...can you tell me who changed my password, Jason?
Andy-Quit playing lame shit!
I know that will make you mad but so what? I know u could play good stuff but you've been playing garbage. Maybe that PWEI album has more than one song to mix "This is Halloween" with.
That's all.
Nothing personal i promise. I know i sound mad, but again. If i didnt sincerely think there's room for improvment i'd laugh at hack dj attempts and go on somewhere else. But more than 2 people live under the sun and there IS room for discussion.
When it rains, it rains on more than ones mans house.
Yeah u "can't make everyone happy" but you don't have to be so damn predictable either. In music "spinning" or board behavior.
Maybe there wetre some good reccomendations on that thread you could look closely at guys. Insted of ripping off one persons shit over and over and over, why not try something new. (there's ONE song-jason-ONE, that's it-that i've heard you play and no one else has-the NIN remix "slipping away." Track one, things fall apart. So I know you can do it)
Maybe it's an old point now because it's never been fucking adressed.
But it's valid.
I know i could sound nicer-but tough life.

This topic may well have been rehashed time and time again, but I haven't been here for any of it, and I missed the preceding mammoth thread on the topic as well, so I'd like to donate my two cents.
I don't like George Michaels. I don't like Limp Bizkit. I don't particularly care for a number of songs that are regularly played at KnoxGothic events. But I don't go to these shindigs to listen to the stereo. Yeah, I wish the DJs would taylor their setlists to my every whim as well, but that would be a little childish of me to actually expect. Different people have different tastes. It's just music. Get over it, man. Life goes on. I typically have a good time regardless of what they play.
Just no country.

Actually, Kurt Harland of Information Society did that mix and it's available on the web. I introduced it... oh, last September or October. You'd have to check the playlists.
P.S. You people need to go listen to the Matrix Reloaded soundtrack. Linkin Park kicks Marilyn Manson's ass on disc one. No fuck.

Oh, uh I did some homework on that Matrix: Reloaded soundtrack.. the first track is Linkin Park - Session. Limp Bizkit doesn't appear anywhere on that album.

It is my honest opinion that the KG scene is exclusive rather than inclusive. It basically boils down to - "Yeah, you can hang out with us, but you damn well better agree with everything we say and make sure you're always shiny happy dancy wheeeeeee."
I truly get the impression that even if 100 people who want to hear more underground rock/punk type music showed up at Sanctus, it still wouldn't be played, because "the inner circle" doesn't want to hear or doesn't know about any of that music, at all.
Ultimately, I think that is the reason that there is a rotating crop of "fresh blood" in the scene, who try it out and then feel disenfranchised or resented and who then leave it.
The irony is, the "inner circle" are the ones who would show up at every Sanctus no matter what music is played. Playing different music would broaden the appeal and increase the attendance. I would bet any amount of money in the world on this.

Take my overplayed songs, please!
I have an idea. Inter-geographic swap of overplayed songs!
Lemme just reel off a list of songs that are mind-numbingly over-requested and good-lord-again-with-this-song overplayed here, because from reading through these threads they are different than the ones down there. Your DJs can take ours, and we'll take yours.
In no particular order:
"Swamp Thing" by the Chameleons UK
"Marilyn My Bitterness" by the Cruxshadows
"Baby Turns Blue" by the Virgin Prunes
"Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" by Specimen
"Sick Asp Fuck" by Pigface
"Lonely Day" by Future Bible Heroes
"Wasted" by And One
"I'll Fall With Your Knife" by Peter Murphy
"Red Light" by Siouxsie and the Banshees
"Once in a Lifetime" by Wolfsheim
"Emerge" by Fischerspooner
"Living Dead Girl" by Rob Zombie
"Frank Sinatra" by Miss Kittin and the Hacker
"Christiansands" by Tricky
Ok, i'm basically joking about the "swap" thing, but i thought some folks might find it interesting what's overplayed as all getout elsewhere. Maybe there is some overlap, maybe not.

You might be on to something there, if only for curiosity's sake.

going through the desert on a thread with no name...
Balance, I am curious why you have chosen to title your two threads about your legitimate complaints concerning the music being played at Sanctus, in such a confrontational, hand stapled to forehead martyrdom fashion. You are setting the tone of the threads to be antagonistic rather than conciliatory, thus trying to turn the threads titles into self fulfilling prophecies. I'm sure there may be some satisfaction in seeing the previous thread locked down after the discussion degenerated into personal attacks, but it makes your efforts to effect change unproductive as emotions turn to anger rather than reflective with a willingness to change.
I'm sure you have a dream, a vision about what the goth scene in Knoxville could be like. No doubt it is frustrating for you that the current scene isn't like that. The question then is, how can you best effect a change to move things closer to your ideas? The easiest way would be to work with the current 'powerbrokers' which like it or not, KG is one of them. It is easier to build up and diversify a group than it is to destroy one, fight over the pieces, and then try to make something positive and vibrant out of it. There are lots of good possibilities for improvement of the scene, try using positive energy to effect positive change , I think it has a better chance of getting you what you want.
Just my thoughts...like them or lump 'em.

Right on Brother Sym!
For what it's worth, I am VERY pleased with our DJs and their efforts. Drew and Jason do a wonderful job(as do Michael, Caustic, & X), and I try to mention that to them whenever possible. No, I don't get to have my "own personal Sanctus" but overall, it's always great fun. As Ryan says, take the opportunity when a song plays that you're not necessarily crazy about to socialize and drink more!
I'm glad we have the ability to state our various points of view, and I'm all for venting as needed, but that can be accomplished without trying to make others pissed or hurt their feelings. It's one thing to be quick with criticism, and another to be equally free with kudos. The individuals who provide us with the music, events, and formats we are so quick to criticize, work hard and put up with ALOT of nonsense just to keep things running smooth for the rest of us. Let's keep hold of our civility, and remember that KG and it's various forms are not anything we have a right to, but rather a wonderful privaledge we should be grateful for.
Sure, it may sound cheesy, but that's how I see it. I offer my sincere appreciation to ALL the KG DJs and staff. Keep up the good work!

Speaking for myself, and this is something I've said several times, I am only suggesting a few different songs per night. I am not suggesting changing the entire lineup.
If a certain few songs are played to appeal to the small percentage who like them, I think it's valid to suggest a certain other few songs be played to appeal to the other percentage who would like those types of songs.
I also said I would stop complaining entirely if we could just hear different songs by existing overplayed artists - "You Handsome Devil" instead of "How Soon Is Now", "Don't Crash" instead of "Headhunter", "Rakim" instead of "Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove", etc etc etc. I've said plenty of times that I don't mind overplayed artists so much as overplayed specific songs.
Hell, if Garbage absolutely must be played, why not "Queer" or "Only Happy When It Rains"? The latter would be especially fitting, with the lyric "I'm only happy when the music's bad".

Argh! With jokes like that, you might as well have carried the theme and suggested "Panic" as the Smiths alternate suggestion! (i.e., "The music that they constantly play says nothing to me about my life, hang the blessed DJ...")
Seriously, though, not that i live there so my input about a club night is worth a grain of salt, i know, but I've always thought "Half A Person" was the goth-night old-warhorse song ("Call me morbid, call me pale, i've spent six years on your trail, six long years chasing your tail.") And, in the vein of my previous post on this thread, "Ask" is almost as overplayed as "How Soon Is Now" here.
Ok, fine, this response is really only an excuse for me to get nostalgic over the Smiths...

Bitch, piss, whine and moan until that little turd comes out if you will but all we're getting is little nuggets of bullshit. Try a laxative or an enema. Maybe then you won't be so cramped.(this is not directed at anyone in particular but if it fits you in your mind then GET THE FUCK OVER IT!!!! )
