just so you guys know, grandpappy always told me to appriciate what i have and make the best of whats available - and it works
im not saying just sit back and be happy, but really take a look at the way you approach the subject and how you go about trying to get change -
i have brought people to knoxville for parties and for sanctus from holland, germany, california, colorado, utah, south dekota, arkansas, texas, maryland, DC, fort bragg, atlanta and various other places
everyone - EVERYONE of them had a fantastic time and ask me about going back as soon as schedules allow them to -
think about that - people from all over wanting to come to knoxville for its "goth" scene - do you really have it as bad as you think you do?

I hafta say, coming from SoCal, I was a GothSnob.. ie: Our scene was better than anywhere else.. Umm, no. It wasn't. I hafta say, the Knox group is the largest/friendliest/most social scene going.. The only other thing I've seen that rivals what we have here, is the one club in Columbus... Outland. The only reason I can say that though, is b/c they have ONE place that does that 6 days a week... As far as social/acceptance goes, I was only there for one day...
We should be proud of what we have... Hel, even NOLA has lost theirs... That's right.. NOLA has absolutely NO Goth scene any longer... I'm sure that there are still a few goths around (I know several) but the "scene" is dead.. We have a good thing, it just needs to be maintained..

Well, I'm going to have to go to the next Sanctus, because it will probably be my last chance to go. I still have never been.
But I'm moving to Atlanta at the very end of July and I probably won't be back up much.

I don't think very many people actually think the scene "sucks".
Just because it's good doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement.
Discussion of improvement is just as worthwhile as endlessly saying "This scene is teh best EVAR!"
The truth is somewhere in the middle. It's definitely far from the worst scene. But it really isn't the best, either. At least, not the best I personally have encountered. That honor would have to go to Toronto or Orlando.
At least we don't have all the creepy people that Atlanta does

Why does everyone think NOLA = Goff? Because it's French? Because Anne Rice wrote about it? What?

you know ive never heard anyone say that. who is it that says this?? im not banging at you here im literally asking this. id rather be in NYC or the sanfran/LA circuits but they are A GILLION MILES AWAY! i think improvments happen in any scene when everyone quits their bitching BOTH SIDES OF IT and just does shit. thats how scenes start, how scenes get better.my cents. but knox is a powerhouse.... and i like it alot. so im outta this conversation i guess.....id like to help make it better and ive talked to alot of people about shit that could be done. but its a great place as is so..... to topic two:
there is no best scene EVAR! they all turn into clicks. but the people in knox are alot easier to get along with than most other scenes.......

no... BECAUSE IT HAD AN UNGODLY SCENE. keyword HAD. ummm obivously you had your a dead eye and ear to NOLA for most of the last 30 years.........
it was the one of the east coast kings for quite a while (i think atlanta and NYC have it now...) ....
and anne rice sucks.

I agree. In my case, the only thing I would change is I would make the music selection more diverse and inclusive in order to attract more people and allow the scene to truly grow with an infusion of good new culturo-genetic material. Now, I would gladly guest DJ at an event, but it has been made clear that will never, ever happen, so what else would you suggest I do other than what I'm already doing - suggesting specific bands and songs? I don't want to start another night, because it would just be seen as divisive and I believe it would be poorly-attended - and I don't think an entire night's worth of "my music" would be appropriate, anyway. That's what my radio show is for.
So, I think that discussing things on here is pretty much my only option for affecting any kind of change in this specific area.

I object. I'm from Atlanta, and I love the scene and the people there. It's just like anywhere, if you avoid certain crowds and elements, you'll be okay. I've managed to live in Atlanta relatively drama-free, because I know how to keep my nose clean.
We're moving back after the baby is born. Not just because of the scene, but for several economical and educational reasons....but there is a lot more to do in Atlanta. I miss it terribly.
I really do like the people and the potential that the Knoxville scene has. I've never felt such immediate welcome and friendliness anywhere.
If I could move everyone I care about from here to there, life would be extra swell.

I think you're trying to say they were decent.
So what?
They probably fell down for a reason. Who wants to emulate a loser? Next step: figure out why the mythic NOLA failed. And don't fuck up as They did. Ubiquitous, as there were probably several factors. I'd lay money on stagnation being one of them. Stagnation across the board, at all levels.
Otherwise, grass? Fence. Greener.

what? excuse my while I vomit.
I lived there and I am from there and knox has always had a better turnout for clubs.
please, let the 'legend' die.

Yes this is one of the better scenes, not as cliquish as the big cities, which is something I like. It gets tiring dwelling on the fringes of this group and that crowd, and not really making any serious friends like I have here. Yes we can improve, but that decries working together instead of complaining, talk with the DJ's, the dancers, the socializers. Information is a 2 way street, tho occasionally you do run into a wall, but just go around and see who else you can meet and talk with.
Oh sad is the world. but I have Kavorkian's scarf.

I totally agree with that. I must say that the real reason i'm hanging around like i am is because of the atmosphere, it is so Friendly. I love the music... and i for one and guilty of doing more socializing than dancing, it is a rare occasion that i go out and make a fool of myself. Now give me a year that way i'll have enough to drink to not think aobut making a fool of myself and things will probably change. And I too have brought people here and they all have loved it.
My thoughts are my bible, that's what I live by.

Thank you! You have just said what I have failed to get across for months. If you have a suggestion, just talke to me, Bone or Vader. We are always interested in listening to new ideas and music.

Hey! I was going to move to atlanta just before I found out I was pregnant. Had a job lined up for 30k a year starting out, everything was peachy and POOF found out I was pregnant and decided I needed to be close to my family... but anywho. . .
The reason Im responding is that I got to know quite a few people online and showed up at a club called "SOL" not knowing anyone for 100 miles. The doorman was a lawyer by day who promoted the club and worked the door by night. Super nice guy, he introduced me to everyone and even handed out popcicles to everyone when their blood sugar got low from dancing.
Ive never met a nicer group of gothy peeps(except us of course). They all treated me like family. I decided then I could go to any town and look up the goth scene and that it was strangely like going to church, to find people like me. I was looking forward to starting my new life in atlanta!
Atlanta Church of Goth will always have my vote.
