Black Cat Adoption Banned

I am just sickened at this time of year. Some people use Halloween as a time when they can do perverse things to small creatures.

I do not know how someone can take a small creature in there hands and feel the trust they project and still harm them...

We all need to do our parts to protect all our four legged friends.

Please keep ALL your cats, not just black or blackish, indoors this halloween. I would hate to hear of the loss of ones cat(s).

Eeek! That is scary! I just got a black kitten not too long ago and he's now an outside cat...I can't bring him in (landlord rule)...so I don't know what I'll do.

Oh, and here's my baby: Nyarlathotep The Crawling Chaos..Nyar for short.

Actually, on the subject, if anyone is interested, there are two black kittens that are up for adoption at Central Vet Clinic. They are absolutely adorable. I came very close to taking one of them home myself, but I already have two and really don't have the room for a third one. One of them is about 12 weeks with long hair and has had some medical problems, but they say he is healthy now. The other is six weeks, short haired and found on a nearby construction site. Someone brought him in because they saw the construction workers kicking him. I'm not sure if they are still there, but if someone is interested, it might be worth a call. They may not let anyone take them home until after halloween, since they had already expressed concern about the time of year.

I am very skeptical of this story. I am sure that they mean well, but they are operating on misinformation. Well meaning concern often causes some severe problems. Concern over the vast urban legend of satanic cults has led to persecution, arrest, ridiculous regulations on trick or treating (if Michael Moore is to be beleived, only 2 children have ever been killed by tainted candy, and both of those were targeted and killed by relatives). Satanic cults...You know, the ones that make snuff films, have child prostitution rings, impregnate their daughters to have fresh babies to sacrifice...Never proven. Just a scare tactic used by groups that once "educated" the public on drug abuse and the religious right to keep people in line.

Look, there are mean and sadistic people out there who torture and abuse animals. We had two men arrested in Hopkinsville who used to drive a van around rural neighborhoods and steal dogs. So while there may be a threat to animals, it could just as easlily be from a pissy little neighbor kid who want to stick a firecracker up a cat's ass - any cat, not just a black one, and not for satanic reasons, just sadistic ones.

I'm curious...If the shelters in LA will not allow you to adopt black cats for a certain period, does that put them closer to being put to sleep? If no one can adopt them, they should have 2 weeks added to their death row sentence :cry:

Butter, if you are really concerned about your cat, let me know. I might be able to arrange to take in a border for the weekend. I have a cat too, but he can stay in a room to himself for a weekend.

when i was a kid we lived in an area of the country where it was advised not to keep any pets outside during the halloween week. it was also advised to keep children always in sight, and this was over 20 years ago.

now, we lived in the desert, so the warnings were not for inclimate weather...
one year, they had a busted a house that what suspected in drug traficing, but instead it was used for rituals involiving animals and babies. plus, they sold older children across the border for slaves.

so, if things were dangerous then, what makes one think its not going to be just as dangerous or even more so, now?

John Wayne Gacy killed young men. Jeffery Dhamer ate people. Both were publicized widely once their crimes were known. If people were ritualisticly killing babies, and their crimes had been uncovered by police, where are all the news stories? There aren't any because the cases never happened.

Urban legends exist because people want to believe them. I'm not going to change any minds here. And, because people like the aforementioned butchers exist, it is not a bad idea to exercise some caution around wierdos. But the satanic cult conspiracy angle is untrue. It was brought up during the Lacy trial and even mentioned on the news...Then it was never mentioned again. Why? Satanic conspiracy or realization of an embarrassing blunder? Okay, I try to stay out of this stuff, but if it saves one kitty, it's worth it to me...

I used to do youth counseling at some of the local churches around the Knoxville area. I came across quite a few self-professed "Satanists", some of them as young as ten years old. They honestly believed the "urban myth" about black cats being sacrificed on Halloween. We might know it's just a story, but these are kids we are dealing with here.

All I know is that my black cat (Shadow) will be staying inside on October 30 and 31st.

the things im speaking of were over 20 years ago and it was in the news... i am searching for articles to back this up, but it is not an easy task. one of the papers that covered the sroties had closed in '99 and the other is primarly in spanish now. but, in the late seventies early eighties the internet was not widley used, so its being difficult to find said articles.

My 3 boys, 2 of which are black cats, one a tuxedo cat will ba as always inside.

Not to argue with anyone but YES, in a lot of areas, animals in general, particulary ones that can be used in bad "jokes" are in danger at this time of year. There's a little place here in Blount County called Nebo Mountain...there are some COPS who won't go up there. It might as well be Deliverance. There are people who will do things, not to be practicing some religion, but just because they can. Don't just think that when asked to keep pets inside around this time it's because of the urban legend that Satanist are out and about...no, it's more like rednecks who were raised seeing it and preppy jerk assholes just wanting to show they can do something bad. It DOES happen, you don't HAVE to believe it, but it does.

Oh and not that I disbelieve anything Michael Moore says but that MIGHT be the number of deaths but I know that when I was a child living in a horrible part of Orlando, FL, there were a lot more cases of things like poison or razor blades in candy or apples. There were usually one or two instances there a year. Not necessarily resulting in death but you get the picture.

Whether true, false or undocumented, it never hurts to be careful...and even if poisoning, etc, hasn't happened...psycho's are born every day. I generally give a quick run through of my kidlets candy...to look for signs of tampering and pick out my favorite chocolates...heehee.

OMG my parents took me to a baptist church every week for 17 years and I cant even tell you how many of those rediculous tracts I have read...they are all like that...the person who writes them only succeeds in telling the reader they are stoopid if they believe what they write :rofl:

Working as a waitress at Denny's in NY, I used to get those damned stupid tracts as tips. We were right next to a Calvary Chapel. A scary one.

Needless to say, my customers got the hint that the tracts weren't appreciated...
