I only see one problem: it's still running Windows XP. ;)

Let me play 'devil's advocate' for a moment...

You get to pick between Win98 or WinXP Home.
Which do you choose?

Arguably you should pick neither. But let us restrict the selection at the moment. If you had to choose between Just These Two lumps o' crap, which would you choose?

Quick, somebody fetch me a typewriter.

Seriously, I don't consider either to be an acceptable choice. I suppose 98 is somewhat less stable, but considering what I've seen xp do recently, I'm not even so sure about that anymore.

But I think I'll stick with Mac OS and Linux, thanks.

well.. seeing as how I have 2 98 SE boxes, 2 Linux boxes, and 1 2000 server box... I'd go with 98.

I still hold that XP will NEVER touch any computer that I personally own.

i work with windows on a daily basis. you dread it when a cu with 98 or ME calls in. and as soon as they say USB, you know you are fucked. XP is far better than 98. exspecially if you hack it all to pieces (ether with reg hacks or with an axe, take your pic). (http://www.tweakxp.com/ http://www.majorgeeks.com/) although, i would take mandrake or panther over any windows OS.

I work with windows on a daily basis as well.. though the majority of the time it's 2k server or now.. 2003 server. As far as XP goes, it's great if you have a brand new system and don't want to know anything about your computer and just want it to work and play games or run the latest version of M$ Office. If you have the extra power to burn on bloatedness sure thing go for it :) If you're looking for someting to put on an older machine with limited CPU power and memory though, 98 SE still works just fine.

It's pretty much the same with Red Hat.. that won't be on any of my machines anytime soon either.

Keith probably has the best point there. Ultimately speaking it depends on what your goal is and what kind of hardware you have.

I for one use WinXP to play games and to accomodate Emily's computer. However I use Debian to do almost everything else, especially on the older hardware that cannot handle XP.
