This should not have been dumpstered.
It addresses serious issues in western society- the value of education, the high expense, and the lengths some are willing to go for it. It addresses the issue that perhaps our values aren't all high and mighty as we like to think they are, and that we still revolve around the dollar (or pound, in this case) more than we do people.

Well, since it's been questioned why this was tossed in the dumpster, I'll explain. (Normally, we don't explain dumpstering, but normally people don't message me asking why I dumpstered something, either...)
I looked at the subject line, and saw something that looked like a national enquirer headline. That in itself is enough (yes, we can and do dumpster topics just because of the subject line. Try saying "fuck" in a subject line and see how long it lasts in General. Then again, don't. It's a pain to move topics.)
Then I took a quick glance at the contents of the post. I saw it as being pretty much what the headline indicated it would be, even including a link to an article from the News of the World, which is simply a British rag on the level of the National Enquirer.
That was about all it took. I clicked the move topic link, and it was dumpstered. Now, before you get upset, keep in mind that being dumpstered is not an edit, it's not a punishment, it's not anybody being banned. It's simply a move based on what a moderator happens to think about a thread, and at first glance I thought this one was silly.
Now that someone has called my attention to it, I've reviewed the topic, and I think that the dumpster was probably the best place for it. Why? Because it's simply a sensationalistic take on something that happens every day, it just happened to be noticed because it made it to ebay, and because these girls figured out a way to make more money and only have to do it once.
I don't have a problem with prostitution, I think it should be legal. I've never really seen the appeal to hiring someone for sex myself, but some people are into that. I see it as essentially a legitimate occupation, and anyone in full possession of their faculties can see that making it illegal is a waste of effort. But in this case, these girls want to use it to pay for school - that's perfectly ok with me, too.
I am generally in favor of government supported education systems, as I'm a bit of a socialist, but that's not the system that's in place in much of the world, and those who want to go to school and can't for whatever reason get their parents to pay for it must find the money somehow.

I just can't see it as any worse than someone spending 4 years saying "would you like fries with that" to pay for school. I've never sold sex, and I've never worked in fast food, but selling sex (particularly if I'm doing it on ebay, only once, and for £10,000) sounds a lot less unpleasant to me.

If those same people in the article had a reality TV show where they interviewed bachelors with the idea of selling themselves into a marriage with a rich guy in order to go to college, very few people would even blink an eye. What's the difference?
