Y'know, if the shoe doesn't fit don't try to put it on! There were quite a few OTHER people that came sallying forth to view this "ring of all rings" so I find it funny that people have chosen to get defensive and take things THAT personal. Out of all the people that came in there to see this wondrous thing I don't recall ANYone stopping to say anything BUT "Where's the ring?, Who has the ring?". Well that "who" has a name and NOT ONCE did any of you address this person as a human being. ALL you saw was this "rock" and NOTHING else. There were 6 people working back there geting their work disrupted and for all intents and purposes we were invisible. I saw people losing their composure over a THING. No, it was not the same thing as someone that "admired a cruise ship". This inanimate object was elevated by all of you to near sentient status. It looked like the ring had a fan club and groupies following it around. If it were capable of giving autographs some of you would've asked for one. So am I out of line saying that people seemed shallow and materialistic when that's what I saw? I am NOT saying that this was normal everyday behavior. It's just what I observed at that time.

And as for saying "Hi" as you passed me today, well okay. But I also find it odd that out of the few dozen times I have seen you my name and the words "Hi" or "Hello" have come out of your mouth all of twice; including today. I'm not letting a stupid thread on a message board keep me from being "friends" with anyone. Most people seem to do that for me all by themselves. That being said that will be all you hear from me on this topic from here on out.

Pardon me for saying but it really makes one seem quite materialistic and shallow.

eh......I maintain maybe this is a question of taste. Some people get excited over a ring.........my boyfriend gets excited over a stick of RAM......I get excited about........well I get excited over lots of things people might find silly and meaningless...........but that makes me who I am.........if that makes me materialistic.......K. Fine. Welcome to our capitolist society

Dayum! Wayne does get excited about sticks of Ram and other computery thingys doesn't he? But, I also so know that he gets really excited about a certain girl in RdubbadubbaBee.

So, I work at the same place and I heard nothing about the bling bling ring. I didn't see it, touch or feel it. I can honestly say that I agree with the Mistress and Gweny that I would creme over 98,000 dollars our cost worth of diamonds on my finger simply because it is something you don't come across to often in everyday life. I am by no means a girly girl. I don't like jewelry. I own a wedding ring. That is the only jewelry i wear.

Anywho, who is MR. Shaper? I am assuming by the post that he would be a jeweler or work in the jewelers shop. Mr. Shaper, I do apologize that the ring took on a life of it's own and you felt neglected. Dayum you Ring. You insensitive ring bastard.

All right, let me translate before this gets out of hand. Mr. Shaper is my Husband-thus the Mr. part.
Here's the situation. His job is to take & manipulate pretty pictures of the jewelry (Incl. THE RING) to be posted internally as a tracking aid and externally on the net- to help sell the stuff.
The other day this REALLY EXPENSIVE ring came in so he had to shoot it. To him, it's his job, like a custodian has to clean the toilet. Like M. Eve(L)'s man, he get's more excited about memory sticks :)
During the few minutes alloted him to perform this task, he was constantly interrupted by several people that had they an inch more balls probably would have pushed him out of the way to see THE RING. Several people! People shadowed the doorway that seldom showed their faces announcing, not asking, "WHO HAS THE RING! I WANT TO SEE IT!" Thus THE RING became more important than any mere employee that worked in that closet.
When I came to work that night, THE RING was the first thing he told me about. The thing was impressive. He's angry about the way he was dismissed. This company has a history of that sort of thing. When he worked in production, they brought in an outside production company (although the majority of us in production have degrees and prior experience doing things like that) to shoot a network commercial. They needed footage of the live show. So this troop piled into the studio where a live show was going on and stood behind Mr. Shaper to tape the host, repeatedly HITTING HIM IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD WITH THE CAMERA LENS"!!! He didn't even get an excuse me!
So, the issue he has is of THINGS becoming more important than PEOPLE. Not the types of things. I'll admit, I work with this stuff and I love it. My engagement ring is Tsavorite. And after a year of sobriety, I took some off the $$ I saved by not pouring it down my throat and bought myself (with MR. Shaper's blessing) a 1.0ctw diamond band! But, Jewelry or computers or cars...it doesn't matter as much as the person next to you. I know this is something we all know.

Really folks, a diamond is worth quite a lot.

On a drill bit.

And this is coming from someone who is quite distracted by shineys.

=P

Author's Note: I'd like to give props to BuggerCup for educating people (including myself) about what goes on in the diamond business. That shit is just wrong. Synthetics, ho!

(Hey christian-It's Lisa) LOL we really should!!!! I know you guys stole Zach out right out from under us. I did get to see him Thursday when he got his paycheck. It was nice. Zach seems much happier in production. I miss him and his sarcastic little ways.

"YOU" AS IN "YOU PEOPLE".

Funny how out of EVERYTHING I said the only words people seemed to focus on were shallow and materialistic. I guess the shoe fit.

I didn't single out ANY particular person yet you want so badly to BE singled out. You or anyone else has YET to try to see the situation through MY eyes. All you can focus on is that someone was calling you names.

If jewelry gets you off then fine. No one was crapping on you about that. People like what they like. The point, and the ONLY point I was making, was that during the time all of this "ring" business was ocurring all of you treated all of US like we weren't even there. All because of some trinket. I didn't TRY to single you out. Quite frankly I thought you got a little TOO excited about a ring but so what? Mainly it was the half a dozen OTHER people that I was concentrating this thought on. Pardon me for having to spell out every little who what when and where but I did say not to take anything personal.

And I thought this was PUBLIC forum?

SO now this will be my last say. Anything oterh comments can reach me through a PM.

Wuzzup Mizz K!

I have a standing rule about going out in the rain if I don't have to and coincidentally it has rained on almost all of the last Sanctus bashes. I guess when too many Goths get together they affect the weather that way.

I'll try to get out to the next one just to see what you have on.
