Skinny puppy update
cEvin Key confirms that Skinny Puppy will be performing live at the German Zillo festival in July. He further stated that, although there is nothing concrete yet, they are planning to tour both Europe and the U.S. this summer and that they "have a lot of shows planned for 2004."
Want more big news? How's this for a tease:::
"Additionally, the LP is now 100% finished and on its way to mastering. Ken Marshall has said that he believes it is our strongest LP in 15 years.

ok
i hate the first two tracks
pretty standard boring guitar driven "industrial" stuff
the tracks sound like they were supposed to be on the process
but then remixed to add some new sound to them
the rest i kinda like
but it's way below the standards skinny puppy have made for themselves
this new nivek ogre faux hip hop vocal style
that's he's been doing a lot of
is just not a direction i think he should go
i'd much rather have the almost stream of consciences vocal style
production wise
the treatments on some of the guitars and vox are good
but most of the stuff is pretty predictable
all the skinny puppy signature spastic parts seem pretty forced
it's not nearly as layerd sound wise as most
and when i do here little things pop up here and there
it sounds like they lifted the sounds from older tracks
esp in track one or two
(can't remember because they seem the same to me)
there's some little keyboard pad that washes in and out
that sounds like another track that i can't put my finger on right now
but i think it was on the process
all and all
it's not bad but i expected so much more

i'd rather be your enemy than hear you call me friend
I was saddened that Process was the last Puppy album, but it was a good disc and at least they went out on top. They continued with solo and new projects and continued the Back and Forth releases, so they left us with quite a lot.
Now this. Granted, I was as giddy as a schoolgirl when I heard a new album was coming out, what fan wouldn't be. Then, I read the above review. Bummer. Then I heard the cd. Double bummer. Every now and then, you hear a sound and think "Oh, oh there's some Puppy" but it doesn't last.
Hey, it is not bad dancey aggro industrio stuff, but it is nowhere near as good as the worst Skinny Puppy album either. For better descriptions of the sound and instrumentation, Recluse has covered everything an is right on target. I'd give this a listen before shelling out the money. I think we are better off just pretending that this never happened and letting Process be the final Skinny Puppy CD.

well, I still haven't received my copy from amazon, but the album is getting a lot of rave reviews on the litany board so I still have some hope. The reports of rappy, chipmunk-like vocals scare me though That can't be good, so can someone tell me, is there a lot of that type of vocal style on there?
