I'm not sure if this should be geek or music or what.
I'm in a band and we have a 4 track and want to run to MP3 format. We are using a freeware program that has a skip at 1:00 and every 30 seconds there after or so. I'm sure it has to do with the buffering and what not.
So we are looking for some manufactures or names of programs that work. We will buy the software cause warez is bad, but freeware is fine.
Anyone got any programs they use?

Audio Recording Software
There is no replacement for displacement.
A good cheap alternative is Kool Edit Pro. Cakewalk is also very good for a home studio. There are a virtual plethora of sound editing software packages out there. A Google search using search terms "Home Studio" will turn up many sources. The skip is likely due to insufficent RAM or processor speed. Try upgrading your computer if possible. Processing audio WAV files require lots of RAM, HD, a home recording sound card and a hefty chip set. Email me for more info but don't post a reply here because I don't land here often. You're probably not catch me back here for awhile.

my setup...
this is a fairly inexpensive set-up that i have found runs great, the system ran me about $650 a year ago..(ps- this is only the pc I use, other periphereals are pending the taste of the user)
P4 2.4 mhz processor
1 gig ddr ram
seagate special edition 80 gig drive with 8mb cache
audigy 2 zs platinum pro
adobe audition 1.0
I use line in because I like to have all of my record processing external, and I use plug-ins for my post record effects. This is a fairly simple but surprisingly powerful set-up, you just have to shop around to get good components at a decent price. Take it easy.

reason
fruity loops studio
pro tools
cakewalk
cubase
soundforge
wave lab
these will get you going
some are editors
the others are multitrackers
you'll find eventually which ones you like best
then you can ditch the others
for maximum wallet protection i advise using soul seek to locate these items
for demo purposes only of course
