Okay, when Nine inch nails plays at sanctus....

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

Let me toss this one out there. I dance, ALOT, to whatever strikes my fancy. And it is a known fact that I like the harder stuff (Ramnstien, Ministy, anything I can beat myself up to) and some of the softer punk stuff (Straycats, Ramones, stuff I can cool down to) which puts me in the simi-top 40 group , but why is it that when I even mention anything off psychopathic records most people cringe and have to give me their opinion of why ICP sucks or how much they hate the fans? You know me. I like some weird shit. But that doesn't mean I want your opinion as if your tastes are the end all be all of music. This realy bugs me. No one has the intelligence it takes to know exactly what others are into and maybe some people don't like it. Don't shove it down their throats. That is unless you want me to blast "The Great Melinko" through a blow horn into your ear.

For some odd stupid reason, club owners seem to connect a full dance floor to higher bar sales, which is in total opposition to how we work. We don't want to spill our drinks ya know (Dance Etiquette Rule #2  ) But thats not what we're about, we're there to listen and/or dance and/or socialize if we so choose. Every DJ I've heard at Sanctus has pulled new music out and some people dance some people don't, but its still good music... So do what you will just don't force people to do what they don't want to...

Well said.

My apologies to any who may have taken offense to any of my own comments of late. I just wanna have a good time & for everyone else to do the same. There's room for lots of different kinds of folks & lots of different kinds of fun around here, IMHO.

In every circle there are people that enjoy dancing and those that prefer to booze and schmooze, those that dance, dance to dancible music. ie. music they like. I have noticed that the majority that dance are the same few, and dance to the same type of music every Sanctus. I'll be included in that group.

Yes, they are intentionally doing this, and yes they intentionally send the message to the DJ that if the DJ would like a full dancefloor they can continue to play the popular music or they can switch it up. Thank God they switch it up or the few that dance would be dead on thier feet and without a social life.

We dancers are quite grateful for the undancible music, it gives us a chance to get a drinky, grab a pal and step outside to cool down, relax and catch up on the abundance of drama and gossip. Now every DJ has a specific style, and it is a groove that we have all fit ourselves into. If you are one of those DJs that happens to play a majority of undancible music, don't be alarmed at the lack of dancers...we are still listening, and still enjoying or otherwise we would LEAVE COMPLETELY and go to waffle house to hang out. Since we hang around, hey we still like you.

For those that would argue that all music is dancible music, replace us slowies and "top 40s " and take over the scene for a while. We'll take your place boozing and schmoozing....a nice circle will eveolve and the dancefloor shall never be empty :)

For those of you that enjoy fast, *and what I consider undancible music, but don't care to dance to it, please stop teasing those of us that like popular oldies (and yes still goodies). Don't be shy, get your own ASS up and dance to it...you don't need us to be there all the time do you? It takes all kinds to create a party.

****these statements were made not to offend ANYONE, they are personal observations and beliefs held by ME and no one else, and I find it silly that people have this argument over and over ****

ps. I only check the board once a week or so ...if you feel the need to blast me, I might not get it till later so don't take my silence as surrender (not saying that I will anyway be attacked.

oh hell...now I sound like a freak...oh wait...I AM!!! :)

Awww. Don't feel bad, I like ICP. (and friends) I like alot of things that would never be played at Sanctus, and that people make fun of. Forget em. If they don't like it, their loss. :P

1. I find the most amusing song to watch people act like its a jr high dance and scream, whilst shitting themselves all the while running to the floor is Magic Dance. I LOVE THAT SHIT.

2. Bone, doing just a gigalo.....muwahahah got it on tape biatch

3. ICP....yah, those cats love me.

4. If people are dancing, they can't buy drinks....so that shoots that age old theory of a full dance floor makes bar owners happy. People being happy and wanting to get fucked up, makes bar owners happy. You do that, by turning the audience, playing this or that, accomidating to these people here, then there, then over there. Quite simply, djing, is like, a revolving door, you are always making someone, talk, dance, drink, or get it on, you just have to keep the people moving thru the door, so they can hit all areas of the process...............

5. Dance/Spin what you like....who really cares? we're there to have fun. If you can't have fun doing something, then you shouldn't be doing it in the first place. .............unless you get paid a ludacris amount of money, they you shut up and eat that shit with a grin, damnit.

Mistress Eve(L) wrote: OH Here's a novel idea!!!! How about when Zeo plays a set of Dark wave stuff you might not have heard before but you'll like, how bout get the F up and DANCE.....Ive noticed a lot of top 40 SHEEP!!!! there is a lot of other good music to dance to a sanctus other that NIN, Souxsie, Rammstein, and the likes.......

I swear, if it wasnt played on the radio,, 90 percent of the crowd sat down.

I actually love the obscure music that no one knows just as much as the top 40 stuff sometimes better but hey this is me and what can I say I have not made it sanctus yet. Oh well *shrugs and slinks back to his corner*

I agree with you, but it was made clear by Those Who Run Sanctus long ago in other threads like this that the population of the dance floor during a DJ's set is, in fact, the "official" Sanctus DJ Quality Yardstick.

I tried many, many times to argue that whether people are dancing or not has no meaning as to whether they're having a good time or whether the night is a success, and was constantly told "It's a dance night, therefore asses must be in motion, period."

That's the root of alot of conflict in our little community, too, unfortunately. Every DJ does their own thing. Some go over really well with the masses & others have a more select appeal. Neither are better or worse than the other, just unique like all other artists & performers. My opinion, at least.

As for what the establishment wants, it is up to the powers that be. Especially when first proving that your night can be successful, I'd imagine that it would be of paramount importance to keep a lively dance floor going almost all the time. Of course, a good DJ who is going for mass volume, must let his dancers breathe from time to time by slowing down his set or playing something more obscure, that gives the feet time to cool down a tad. That's when they have the opportunity to satisfy the folks with different tastes.

I think the formula of majority of music played = mass appeal & special requests to satisfy the more distinguished tastes works fine, but some would take issue that it's just too close to mainstream for a goth night. I think we are exceedingly blessed with the diversity & quality of our local DJs. Each of them seem to be quite open to requests & discussion of music in general. No one person can please everyone all the time, afterall, & it's a waste of time to even try, but our folks sure do give their best try. That's all I can personally ask.
