I am urging animal guardians to be cautious this Halloween, and to keep their pets indoors as a precaution. Each year around Halloween the states humane societys learn of 'pranks' involving animal abuse. Black cats are the most frequent victims, but all companion animals could be in danger at this time of year.
It is extremely distressing that some people abuse animals as a sick joke. I am urging you to keep a close watch on your pets.
Please report anything suspicious to the local SPCA branch or affiliated humane society. Not only is cruelty to animals a crime, animal abuse causes pain and suffering and should never be dismissed as a prank.
Also please do not share Halloween treats,, especially chocolate, with your pets. Chocolate is very dangerous because it contains theobromine, an ingredient which is toxic to most pets.
