i read the little bride, or whatever, and i was disgusted and apalled. can they do that? isn't that fourteen kinds of racist against muslims? and who the fuck cares how someone else is worshipping god? other christians should be happy for the fucking support. and another thing before i step off my soap box...i'm fed the fuck up with the christian community feeding the rest of the world scare tactics and 'you're-goin-to-hell's. maybe they'll all be judged for thier biggotry and hatred for anyone not like them. kharma's a motherfucker

Ya know, I had to sit down last night, while I was at the hospital with my mom, and explain to her what I do in this scene. She said she had been afraid I was doing "bad things" or whatever. She was open to hearing about what we do and the kinds of people in the scene but she had just made assumptions. I'm glad she was open and understanding and wanted to know...just wish everyone was open and wanted to know, rather than just being content to stick with their assumptions.

Most of my family are much more conservative Christian than I am...I'm a very liberal Christian and very open minded and accepting one. I love everyone...regardless of religion, race, sexual orientations, any of that stupid crap that seems to get in some peoples way.

Oh my....I think I took over the soap box...let me step down now.

Nice! I need that one. I collect Chick tracts. Keep in mind, Jack Chick is an extreme zealot, racist, homophobe (and probable homosexual in denial - hence the hate) that has a devoted, but relatively small following. He has an agenda against science, homosexuals, women, Musilims, Catholics, Jews at the very least.

He epitomizes the type of christian that I despise. Thankfully, I actually know VERY FEW Christians of his ilk. Most are kind caring people that do actually have a faith based on love versus hate.

Do keep in mind that this man and his booklets represent an, albeit rabid and zealous, minority. Keep in mind though, that anyone who DOES distribute these is probably batshit insane, so keep your distance! They is some SCREWY PEOPLES!

PS. If anyone has some of the tracts lying around bring them to me at Sanctus or Temple! Thanks!

If you can find a copy, Fantagraphics used to publish a "tract" (by an author last name of Raeburn) called The Imp. Looks like a large Chick Tract and is a history of Jack Chick and a deconstruction of what makes him tick and what makes his phamplets so deliciously appealing / revolting. A great and informative read. I got most of my tracts in the military. Have not seen them as often since.

As opposed to the full blown ugliness that gets spilled out by some 'christians'? Oy..i dont want to spurn a debate or anything but my understanding of the faith i practice is one of love..in its extreme form i suppose i would drive you all crazy with wonderous acts of selflessness..extreme christianity would be loving like Jesus did..without apology and without restraint.

I dont know exactly -what- that hatefulness is..but i refuse to belong in the same little jar as the aforementioned specimen.

no its saying that they take it to an extreme.
they take the parts they like, ignore the rest, and fill in the gaps with their own agendas.

That is a Jack Chick archtype - The tough physically scarred christian. In many of his tracts, there is a character that looks physically intimidating, generally scarred. He is there as a shadow like threat, but actually offers "salvation" to the tract's heroes.

He accepts christ as his savior and blames all of his evils on porography before he dies. If you are Jack Chick, who goes to heaven and who goes to hell?

It was actually a religious tract that "unsaved" me. I realized their ideas did not agree with my own. These people are full of hatred and hypocracy, not the acceptance and love they claim is their goal.

This particularly angered me: http://www.exposingsatanism.org/animorphs.htm I was obsessed with this series in middle school. They are still some of my favorite books. (blush!) And no, they aren't written from a Christian viewpoint, but instead of being a caution, this article is an attack. I have never, ever heard anyone call the author "the holy K.A." Seriously, that is sad. I really respect her. She treats children/young adults as if they actually have a brain. ...*sigh*

Anyway....If I'm not already, I'm gonna try and avoid a soapbox, and if it's too late then sorry, I'll stop now.
