Bev and I had a great time again
But the music was a little sub-par.
hasn't anyone every heard of atmosphere atmosphere atmosphere
I don't wanna hear 70's disco or hip hop, that's certainly not my bag. I was very disappointed in the music.
When I arrived I thought I was in the wrong place,
Do that same thing in NYC and you got zero customers.
the old rule holds true you can't please everyone all the time
hip hop and goth are two very different and distant sub-cultures with absolutely nothing in common.
music that is acceptable with in the genre classes is goth, industrial, ambeient, cyber, some horror punk early hardcore, metal and pop. everything else is way outside the realm and with how many new and great Goth bands why try to play everything, it's not like there's not enough music out there.
hasn't any one ever looked at DJ lists published online at other very popular gothic venues that have been open for years with excellent DJ's. I know several published in new england, anyway there a great for a rough idea of what is really going on in the scene right now instead of what we are doing here?
hint hint Ceremony in Boston and Hell in Rhode Island both publish DJ lists
Anyway I was asked by several people about MP3's for my band
so heres the plug, sign into my yahoo group and acces several MP3 Song's in the file section:

While I was in NYC over the last year I played in The Gothic Band
"Dead Emotion" and shot two video with the band as the keyboardist called "Bytch" & "Nothing to die for"
both available for your viewing pleasure on
http://deademotion.com/
The Video's were shot by a professional outfit based out of South Jersey called "Axis Video" They have done Video for Bella Morte, Kittie, CARFAX ABBEY. they do great professional work.
While I was in Dead Emotion, I played CBGB's Gallery (Alchemy), The Albion / Batcave, Master Steelowes party at FunHouse (Club Rare, The Continental, Nocturnal Creatures and Saints & Sinners.
Bev & I also attending Court of Lazarus, a Vampiric Society serving the greater New York City metropolitan area. There are actually 6 formal Vampire Courts in NYC with over 500 members. That is usually a very interesting evening.

My point was this.
A promoter promotes a night.
whats the hype here, it's the night where you can hear anything and everything?
hmmm
whether it be this or that, one type of music or another atleast I'd know what I'd be driving 4 hours in one night for but if he or she can't really decide then I as the customer, really doesn't have to come? that is my point.
you know you guys are way to touchy about whatever,
calm down, I know it's Knoxville, (ick Clinton) but you know it doesn't have to be.
When I had 7th Street people were begging me to do something in Knoxville, becuase they knew it would be something wicked cool and it would last and it would be what it's supposed to be not "whatever" to whomever"
Again the job of the promoter is to get people he wants to see out in the club. certain bands bring certain people, certain music brings certain people etc, it's a very simple concept.
my credintials are I owned the best club in east Tennessee for 6 years, 7th Street and I closed it with money in my pocket when I wanted to close it. I have a good idea of what is what, I worked for very hugelly successful promoters in Manhattan and learned from the best.
basically if your going play variant music the begining or end of the night are the two best times, not midnight, basically either play the off stuff early when no one is there or late to run people out.
The main thing I learned was you have to pay people because then you have leverage to tell them what to do and not to do, it's not like they are doing you a favor.
DJ's should get paid, bands should get paid they are worth every cent.
anyway that's my two cents, Not sure if we will return now that we know the night could be this or that and we will just blame it on Knoxville or something going on someplace else.
the plan should be to call the night something have direction and hold the course for a period of time to build the night, promote and keep people happy not make excuses.

Am I the only one that recognizes that this is the forum of what?
Knox...... Gothic.......
I don't think anyone should try to make me feel bad or wrong because I point out that a night is not completely Gothic yet it posts in here to redirect us to an event? that could or could night be.
anyway.... out
