SpongeBob, Christan Anarchists, and Rec|use

Post by jet »

OK, I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but I was raised souther Baptist. Grandfather preached on a mountain top between Dayton and Pikeville in a town called Waldons Ridge. My family while in Florida changed to a non-denominational church which I use the term "Holy Rollers" we beleived in the laying of hands and being slain in the spirit. At the age of 13 I was given the gift of Toungues. I was then Baptised and Born Again, shortly after which I obtained a second Tounge to communicate with (and can still speak today IF i choose to). Then shortly after that I was enrolled in their school. This showed me just HOW hipocritical Christianity is.

With that being said I don't beleive in Christianity in ANY form today. While you may be a solitary practitioner and don't beleive in going to church, there are still the 10 Commandments which ALL Christians are to abide by. Having to follow these rules of life they still go against the beleifs of a true Anarchist.

Anarchy: Absence of any cohesive principle, such as a common standard or purpose
{www.dictionary.com}

So the basic principles of Christanity do not fit into this.

Now while Jesus never claimed to be above ANY other man on earth, his father Jehova does. He is our creator, and he rminds us of this ALL throught the Old Testament. Asking fathers to Sacrifice their sons in faith. Destroying the world because he did not like the way his creation was going, and on, and on, and on....

Now with all that said now for the Spongebob Morality Video thing: In the US Constitution we set aside a thing called "The seperation of Church and State". Now Christian groups can protest, but the public school system is still part of the State and therefore if the state decides to do it, religion should have NO say in it. That is why there are Christian and Private schools. Christians who do not like this have the option of removing their children from the public system and send them to the private sector, but then the private sector can do what they want, and include what they want with NO VOTE from the outside world.

So the Rec|luse thing: He is stating the truth. When people find that someone will not agree with them or they run out of things to argue about, they try to make someone else look bad with personal attacks. He has done NONE of this and yet someone found it necessary to just that. This kind of tactic is a sign of weakness, and ignorance !IN MY OPINION!

So with all that said I bid you all a good day cause I'm cooking up some Pork Chops and watching Spongebob!!!

How is it that you can speak in tongues at will? Just curious because speaking in tongues is letting the Holy Spirit speak through you, you're filled with the spirit at the time you speak it and you don't even know what you are saying. I know this because I was raised in a house where I witnessed my grandmother speak in tongues. Her brother was a preacher and at times, he was able to interpret because, as it says in the Bible (and no, I won;t quote where because I don't remember where), if there will be someone who can speak, there will be someone who can interpret. It's not something one can do all the time or at their own choosing of time...it's something that's given only when said person becomes filled with the Holy Spirit...

Now that I'm showing possibly more of my religion than most of you want to see, I'm going to stop now. I just don't understand this and have to ask questions.

I feel ya there. I got kicked out of Temple Baptist for asking about Cain. Something about an eight year old asking about the first murder made them nervous I guess.

I'm not trying to insult you, or your religion, but how exactly do you know that they were really speaking in tongues?

Or for that matter - forget any and all skeptical inclinations I might have about the existence of a(ny) higher being(s): how do you know the words were coming from the Holy spirit? How do you know she wasn't possessed? Or suffering from some kind of undiagnosed mental disorder?

Again, I must stress that I'm not trying to offend. I'm just curious. It seems to me that the idea of someone speaking in tongues requires faith in more than just a religion, but also in another human being - not just their moral integrity, as I'm certain you'd stand up for your grandmother - but their physical well being. I mean, just an electrolytic imbalance (that's not having a high enough salt to water ratio in the bloodstream) can cause the same symptoms in otherwise healthy individuals as can afflict those who suffer with schizophrenia.

I hate to rain on the parade of anyone who claims to "speak in tongues," but...

The Koine (Biblical) word for toungue (pronounced glow-sa, I haven't got access to greek characters here) is used in reference to known languages, not the babbling that is commonly found in churches today.

On another tangent, doesn't anyone ever think about that if GOD, in all his omniscience, would be kind of perturbed that you wouldn't think he would understand plain English?

I suppose all of that stuff is taken on faith. I mean that's what being part of religion is all about. You have faith that what you are being told is true. Personally I can't bring myself to belive in any of that stuff so it's Atheism for me.

I don't take offense. Many other Christians don't believe in it. I've seen people of my family, and others, speak in tongues. It all does boil down to faith though. I was brought up with this faith and witnessing these acts....I took my time away to question how I felt about it all and came back to it. I don't expect everyone to believe in tongues, I know it's pretty far out there to a lot of people, and had I not witnessed it numerous times, I might not believe in it. If it were just one person, I might not believe that it were real but that the person was just crazy. I really don't know how to explain it other than that...it's all in my faith.

Lib,

the idea of being able to do it at will, is based on the concept that we are all filled with the holy spirit once we are 'saved'..the the holy spirit is the counselor sent to us that Jesus spoke about when he ascended. Its based on the idea that he is always there within us. If i'm on crack, someone correct me on that belief.

As for Christian anarchy..blah blah blah honestly..either you love people and you treat them well, or you dont..thats about all there is to it. Its all about the love.

Now..i dont claim to be perfect, as i am entirely not..i also dont claim to always do the wise thing or make the wise decisions that Samson always talked about doing in Ecclesiastes. I -do- call myself a Christian..at times..Jesus likely just shakes his head at me and waits patiently for me to stop being an idiot..but i do try..if the only fruit of my faith that i do bear is love..and acceptance..[-can hear all of you barfing right about now-..sorry guys..] then well..i suppose that is alright, though i will always -try-.

I was raised atheist and i go to a very..liberal..church now so i dont really know what its like to be in an oppressive religious environment..i guess im thankful for that. I didnt have an easy, nor a happy childhood, but i live a life of no regrets, and it does take a concious effort to decide to be healed of things, of taking on that garment of faith as opposed to the one of hurt..(it isnt easy..much easier to be bitter)..those things from my past make up my history..who i am..and temper my perceptions of the world i live in..and of the people around me.

So um..that is all.

-sets mike down..hops off stage-

Argh. Damnable Southern Baptist raising. Just to think as of this day, 3 years ago, I was still Christian conservative. Ickyness. I even went to the polls in 2000 with my father and pressed the Bush button on the voting machine for him. I've dramatically recovered since.

Waldon's Ridge? Can't say I've ever heard of it. I live in Crossville(yeah, duh... see bar to the left). I've been all around Pikeville and Dayton and in those mountains and I can't say it rings a bell.
