Why do you guys feel the need to classify yourselves as gothic?

I mean, this isn't a flame or anything. I am honestly just curious. Myself, I try to not pigeon hole myself by trying to classify myself as one thing.

I could be totally out of bounds for asking that question and if I am, I am not sorry, because my curiosity is killing me.

Well, I don't consider myself to be goth. In case you didn't know, "goth" is Norwegian for "gay".

I can't be Goth because my hair isn't dyed, and it's not even cut in a Betty Page.
Plus, I wear color.

Anyone who has met me knows I am soooo not goth (see? I just said "soooo", that should prove it there). I wear more pink and yellow and frilly things than I do black and spooky. I'm *usually* extremely perky and happy.

I kinda get tired of the "what's goth" type threads, but whatever.

I personally don't consider myself to be anything but me. And I really don't even know the meaning of goth and I kinda don't care.

I will say, tho, that by my standards, The Fallen is pretty damn goth or whatever.

Well i guess i can take a stab at this one.I hate labels really i mean anybody that labels themself to one thing restricts themself to be able to grow.Case in point much of my youth i saw myself as a classic rock/metalhead.Anything outside of that was dumb and those who like anything other than metal or hard rock or classic rock had no taste.Into my 20s i found that good music is good music genres be damned.So to label yourself one thing or the other is dumb.But in this case just to be funny,Hi im dustin and im a goth (who loves nascar,wrestling,slow walks on the beach and candle lit dinners)anyway my point is i dont think about on this board subscribes to a label at least not the folks i surround myself with.We are just a big family who attend nights where "goth" music is played and we dance and cut up and have a good time.

When I was in highschool, 89-93, people who liked "goth" music also liked Sonic Youth, Fugazi, Camper Van Beethoven, King Missile, the Smiths, and all kinds of other good stuff.
