Tarot Readings for Sale!

Post by Jack »

I read Tarot. I taught myself with the Russian St. Petersburg deck, which I still have 8 years later. Everyone I have ever read for has said I was intensely accurate. I am not a hippie. I am starting a Tarot reading business. If you want yours read, PM me and let me know. Price is negotiable. "The price matches the effort," to quote Simon Magus. I will not bullshit you with vague bullshit. Honest advice only.

I've been reading for "donations or beer" at Union Jack's, and one night made $25 and 3 pints, and last night got 4 pints from these flight attendants (they had no cash, just debit cards).

And even the two skeptics walked away going "wow".

What I need is some business cards.

I'm so broke, I'll do a reading for a bottle of Jones Green Tea.

SIDE NOTE: Last night as I sat at my usual table at Union Jack's, ordered a beer and asked for a piece of paper and a marker to write "Tarot for beer or donations", I was told by the "head" bartender (though NOT the owner) "you can't do that here any more, it's soliciting" (note that there is NOT a "no soliciting" sign outside this bar anyway). This despite that I have been going to that bar for SEVEN YEARS and have given them literally thousands of dollars of business, and PERSONALLY tipped this guy, who has always been nice to me, at least a thousand dollars. NONE of the other bartenders had a problem with it; in fact, all of them either had me read their cards or wanted me to read them. I was later informed by one such bartender that the real reason I was disallowed was because he didn't want the bar to be known as "that kind of place" (this DESPITE the fact that rich West Knoxville yuppies are generally the MOST interested in having their cards read). ADD TO THIS the fact that I was ONLY doing it on slow weeknights when there was no competition for space, and that I was actually INCREASING the business by having people buy me far more beer than I would normally buy myself.

An eventual compromise was reached whereby I can lay my cards on the table without a sign, but I still think this is FUCKING BULLSHIT and am severely tempted to never - EVER - tip that bartender again.

"Will read Tarot for beer" would make an awesome T-shirt.

OK, here's the deal, people. I REALLY need money. I am REALLY good at reading Tarot. I would REALLY appreciate it if even one of you would take me up on this. jjenesis, I guess you were just kidding or whatever, which is fine, whatever. I'm not asking for handouts. I'm offering a real service here and I would love to not get evicted in 4 days because I don't have enough shit to sell. OK? OK.

Hey, all you need to do is bump around a bit. Some of us read it.

I'd throw down some green just to be helpful, but we're moving - with all the extra bills, deposits, and down payments that entails - and just had an unexpected vet bill come up. As such, the cash flow is down to a trickle, so to speak.

Sorry.

Sorry you're in such a bind Jack, but that's not gonna be the most effective sales pitch. Try just showing up somewhere, cards in hand, & chat some folks up. Hell, just sitting in a corner throwing down some cards on your own will undoubtedly attract a few folks & you can build from there. Have a donations jar handy or a sign with your fee, however you prefer. I'd offer my patronage if money wasn't similarly an issue for me & mine, but I do offer you my best wishes for your venture & your more urgent matters. Ask Jay about setting up down at Temple or something. Coffee shops would be good too.

It'll still be read.

Everything can't be in General, nor should it. If you know of a particular place where you'll be set up to read soon, post it in Upcoming Events. That's one that gets read just as much as General. Patience, dear.

Dude, I don't think complaining about not getting any interest on your tarot reading for beer is gonna get you anywhere. . . I know you certainly turned alot people off there. . . This tarot thing should be a side income anyway. . . something you do on the side while you have a job. No offense intended there. . . but tarot is SOOO not a way to make a living. . . or a good drink. . . Try something else, I suggest.
Best wishes.

Dude. Where in this thread did I say I was trying to suddenly make a living at this? I was just trying to get a few extra bucks so I don't have to quite sell all 900 CDs I own to avoid eviction because my girlfriend, when she broke up with me, stuck me with a bunch of bills and didn't even give me the courtesy of waiting a couple weeks to look for a roommate before leaving on her quest to complete her transformation to an Ecstasy-popping, hard-drinking, dirty-dancing Tonic/Michael's denizen who now listens to mostly rap music.

And Mother Mo, I bring my cars and sit in the corner with a little sign all the time; it's how I've always done things; perhaps you missed my little rant about what happened at Union Jack's, which had been a successful place for me.

I just reckoned that A) SOME people here would be interested and B) they would have a few bucks to spare. "Professional" tarot readers charge upwards of $20 a reading, and I'm a hell of a lot better than those charlatans, and a hell of a lot cheaper. I always say I'll do a reading for literally as little as you want to give me.

No, Jack, I didn't miss the readings for beer part. Just suggesting a new venue where you can exchange your services for something more immediately useful... cash. Since your favorite pub isn't game, perhaps it's time to try a different spot? Of course, it's always polite to inquire as to their feelings before proceeding. Again, best of luck!
