GTA blamed for something else stupid

Post by elasticwings »

Appears some kids went on a graffiti spree and got caught. And low and behold, they cried out, "GTA made us do it."

*smoking noise* HOLY SHIT!

I have the shirt with:

"Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music"

Which was coined by Kristian Wilson, Nintendo, Inc. 1989

At a December hearing, authorities said Devin Thompson, when he was apprehended, told officers, "Life is a video game. You've got to die sometime."

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,147722,00.html

Ugh, what a whining bitch. GTA made me steal a car and shoot cops. Blah blah blah!!! I know my parents taught me the difference between wrong and right, but I think more than that, they taught me to be responsible and take proper blame for my actions.

The only thing that GTA taught me that cheat codes really can make a game more fun.

Crap, Real Life™'s resolution is way too chizz to waste on killing cops and stealing cars. Now, if there were a good simulation that involved killing people and stealing cars, that I could get into. Whee. Algorithms have no rights. I can kill all I want; they'll just respawn.

concerned parent groups across the country say ban GTA for family values...
like a father who fucks his assistant at work
or a mother hooked on valium
or beating your kids
or oversheltering them letting your god complex spawned of insecurity dictate what you think should be their course of action and militantly employ.

cheers for family values, you dumb fucks.

GTA == the bad parent blame stick.

Apparently lawmakers in Washington state are trying to push thru a bill that would hold video game makers of violent video games liable for crimes commited by persons under the age of 18 that played their games.

http://komonews.com/stories/35494.htm

Ugh, wtf is wrong with these people? I mean that's just encouraging kids to commit violent crimes by giving theme a get out of jail free ticket.

"Supporters of the bill, like Bill Hanson with the Washington Police and Sheriff's Association, say "kids" are getting the games, and they're becoming desensitized."

OMG, how do you get desensitized by pixels? I mean I watched horror movies and shit when growing up that look alot more realistic than any video game I've ever played. I wasn't compelled during my teen years to go out and murder people. You know why? It's because my parents taught me that doing that is wrong. They also told me that I would go to jail for many years for commiting murder. But if this bill is passed, that may not be true in Washington state.

Here's an interesting interview on the CBS News website with a person in the gaming industry about violence in gaming in relation to the current trend to blame underage violence on videogames.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/03/ ... 7960.shtml

From the article:
"Do you think that video games are similar to sports? There are much-touted statistics that link aggression levels to video game playing, but isn't that precisely what happens in any kind of competition?

The goal of any competition is to win.

We hear stories about football players getting drunk, doing drugs, raping girls at parties, injuring people in bars, etc. But I don't hear anyone suggesting that we ban high school football. Aggression is part of competition sometimes. Most people can separate competitive aggression from using aggression to solve trivial problems. Some people can't, and you'll find these people in any hobby imaginable, not just video games. I'm sure that at one point or another a golfer snapped and beat someone to death with a 7-iron.

Let's ban golf, shall we? "
