11th street

If it's not covered by one of those other categories, you should probably talk about it here. Be nice.

Is it still open do people still gather on Friday nights?

a new moon madness and a love of rain.

um. 11th street is yet another venue the goth plague has shut down.
like i say, when the gothic crowd frequents a place it's shutdown is not far behind. get mad if you want. i'll just post a list of examples to back me up.

Oh, right. Goths have been hanging out at 11th street for what, 10 years now, and you're going to blame goths for shutting it down - when the city has announced plans to sell the property and kick everybody out. That makes perfect sense.

Balance, thats about the stupidest thing you have ever said.

I'd say if it wasn't for our crowd 11th would have shut down a long long time ago.

Cokeheads shut places down, not us..lol.

planet earth
mercury
lava
neptune
fairbanks
fairbanks (what happened to the night there)
Joe's on strip (goths hangin out not spending money)
Ivy's
Giant panda
between the buns
11th street

excuses for all to be sure, but the fact of the matter is this-goths cant sustain any place alone; they also scare off other business.
i've been told so much by two different owners so keep any arguement to yourself. reasons why they shut, but if money were flowing they'd be open. For example: why is cotton eye'd joe's still open? money.

"yeah i have to agree, showing up at a place, spending money there, spending time there, bringing out friends and new people who spend money there - terrible for business, terrible i tell ya!"

this is just dripping w/ situational irony. becuase it IS terrible for business when u run off a larger crowd. and one's house doesn't count as a business.

furthermore, think what you want but sanctus is only around still becuase it's just one night a month.

and buttercup, it's interesting u bring up cokeheads in relation to venues because lord lindseys and the electric ballroom (both gay clubs and coke havens ) are still around. curious that gay clubs can last but not goth nights.

why?
because somehow goth has become synominus with lower class.
i don't like it, not pleased with it, but it's true.

look, i'm not trying to kick the self esteem of people who already have little; i'm just pointing out a pattern. every fucking place goths hang at closes.

That's ridiculous. I've never once heard anyone say, "Oh, I won't go to 11th Street. That's where all them goths hang out." Maybe shitty management is to blame?

Also, I'd like to point this out: correlation does not prove causation. Take this for example: Ice cream is sold the most in the summer months. More murders occur in summer. Therefore, the rise in ice cream sales leads to a rise in murder. Bullshit. People tend to become more agitated when hot, thus they are more prone to violence. Ice cream sales are linked to murder, but they are certainly not the cause. Just like in this situation. A high number of goths at an establishment does not cause business failure.

Haven't lived here long enough to know the history behind most of those establishments. But it would seem that more things affect the success of a business than the clientle that frequents it ONE night a week.

How long was Giant Panda open before it shut down? It would seem to me that is was in direct competiton with PF Chang's - Not a good thing. The place that bought it, Palm's, certainly did not last very long - You guys weren't loitering around there were you ;)

Thank "Bob" everyone stopped coming around 4620 before Sanctus, it was starting to look shakey (not). I guess things are looking rough for the Urban right about now.

From what I understand, there were always problems with Fairbank's, which is part of why things moved to Amnesia, which seems to be doing quite well on Temple nights. Can't speak for the rest of the week.

Anyone still go to Tomo's?

How are Thursday nights at the Roxy?

Businesses close. No business is more likely to fail than a bar or restaurant. But any bar or restaurant is dependent on its TOTAL business, not its business on any one given night. Just a thought, I could be way off base.

Um....I was with Lava up until the bitter end. Their closing had NOTHING whatsoever to do with the 'goths' but EVERYTHING to do with the cokeheads.....just as Buttercup said.

That's because goths hate people and gays are like a human parade.

In summary, Gays=Rainbow. Goths=Painbow.

Hmm...but what about gay goths?

Gayths?

Yes yes, hasn't anyone heard the old saying: Whenever a goth pees, a business loses it's financial integrity, business license, and 90% of its clientele.

How to prevent it? Serve more hard liquor. The more liquor goths consume, the more dehydrated they become, and hell, eventually, they can't even make it to a bathroom.

Hurrah for liquor, hurrah!

Or.... maybe the whole "goths kill business" is a crock of shit.

You decide.

Joes on the strip closed cause Joe didn't want to run it. And if there were people there not spending money they were 'gamers' not goths that killed it. I know A LOT of people that went there to play games (hearts, spades, chess, etc.) and none of them are into the goth scene.

Panda closed cause they didn't have any business it was typical Chinese food in a bad location. 2 to 3 business besides Panda have closed there cause its not in a good spot as far as traffic flows.

The old Fairbanks location was a joke. Was that place open when Sanctus wasn't going on? That is a terrible location for a night club.

IIRC the Mercury closed cause of poor management decisions and lack of people coming and spending money some of whom were 'goths' but not everyone there was. I knew the bartender there from her pervious bar in the Old City "The Frog"

Ya know, i don't really post here anymore, hence why i haven't seen this before- BUT, i'll take some of those buisiness' off that list.

I mean first and foremost places like Panda and Beetween the Buns are KAREOKE bars, kareoke bars with horrid kjs (i like kevin, but his boy is....well...the shits) At that again kareoke bars with horrid kjs, who have no prizes, and do/did incredibly poor advertising. Take also into the purse the woman that owned the panda, was the WORST buisiness woman EVAR. Anyone that will pay me a ludicrious amount of money like she did, to basically mix like shit, and actually walk out with the money she said she'd give me....is an idiot. I'd like credit....if ANYONE killed the Giant Panda...I DID.

Ivey's, well...i think i've said this before, but, ivey's went under because they rode a wave on their opening. When we took over it was NOTHING, we (Diamond Ent) upped nightly numbers by nearly 600% (my guess is we woulda easily cleared 800% had we not had the big scary pill slippin sticky handed bartender working for us) We had a great run, then it tappered off (as it always does) we came up with the battle of the bands gimmick and we went back on top. I brought in the 80s night thing, and again we had good biz.

Here are your bad factors: We had no AIR CONDITIONING, we did little to no advertising, and unfortunatly bad booking of anyone who had a band to come in and play. Looking back there is no such thing as a bad night, only bad acts to put on a night. Thus our Saturday night monster rock show, and 80s night on friday, gave us lots of water, it didn't even the scale when you did like 20 dollar nights, cus you brought some shit ass punk band in, they brought in 3 people, and they each bought 7 pbrs.

Its not mine to say anything on, but i was involved, Fairbanks wanted the "evil cult" back, jesus, those guys saw me out right after xmas, and asked ME to put something together to do...so they WANT IT...unfortunatly for us (the promoter, or bookers of the event) you have to charge people like 75 dollars to get in. Reentry fees not included. Why worry with it?

so sorry to bring up some old ass topic...i was bored.
I'm a big bright shining star......
