Bit Overweight? Here's Spectacular News
Woo hoo! There's actually an advantage to being just a few pounds over your ideal weight: You may live longer. The Centers for Disease Control have determined that while obesity is indisputably lethal, people who are modestly overweight actually have a lower risk of death than those of normal weight and those who are underweight, report Internet Broadcasting Systems and The Associated Press.
You read that right. A little extra weight--the key word here, folks, is "little"--is not so bad, especially if you stay fit, eat well, and pay attention to your blood pressure. This new research, which was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, analyzed national survey data from more than 30,000 Americans, comparing the mortality rate with body-mass index. Specifically, they compared the death rate in underweight, overweight, and obese people to the death rate of normal weight people.
The stunning results? The CDC determined there are about 26,000 deaths annually that are the result of being overweight, a dramatically lower number than the 365,000 deaths it had claimed as recently as January were due to excess pounds. In these new calculations, obesity was to blame for 112,000 deaths and being underweight led to 34,000 deaths, notes AP. Net net: People who are slightly overweight have a lower risk of death than people who are underweight or of normal weight.
The CDC refused to go so far as to say that being overweight is protective in any sense of the word, and it is still a risk factor for a number of diseases, including type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. Because of this, some experts are shaking their heads in disbelief at the conclusion. After all, if your weight places you at a higher risk for disease, it's only logical your life could be shortened. Everyone seems to agree that more research is needed.

Oh, I wouldn't be to sure about that. Read the entire article:

But hey! if you croak sooner than later, at least your friends and family can make soap out of you, and have something to remember you by.

I did read it all. My thing is, I just don't care. Why live when you have to restrict yourself from all the things you love and crave? Yes, moderation is the key, but what the hell? Sometimes the whole chocolate cake is calling your name and you're powerless to resist!
But when I croak, I've asked my family to render me down into candles, not soap. That way, I can still be the guiding light that I am!
