Riddle me this...
In Jedi luke asks Leia if she remembers her real mother. She responds that she vaguely remembers her, that she was very sad. She was in fact so sad (not that you'd know it from her acting) that she died in childbirth. How exactly did Leia remember her?

Got me a movie, I want you to know...

If you saw Jedi, you'd realize that she says she only remembers feelings of her mother. It's the force, man
If she were a street gang, I'd go to war with her with bottles and chains.

Actually, she was adopted by Bail Organa and his wife. Luke was given to his Aunt and Uncle. Therefore, she responds to what she knows. That is her adoptive mom, who obviously dies in the next few years after E3.....
Anymore "Holes" with the movie you want filled?
And, I'm not referring to any body parts, or Courtney Love.... j/k
Duct tape is like 'The Force'. It has a light side and a dark side, and it holds the universe together.

Arrrrghh.
I knew someone would bring up the force...
Grrrrrr. It's like arguing with Mormons.
(If you are a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints, replace Mormon above with Pentecostal for a more user friendly post.)

I beg to differ. Leia knew she was adopted, and Luke specifies her real mother in Jedi.

Yes, she was adopted by Organa, but when Luke asks her about her "real mother" she says she died when she was very young. Now, I'm assuming Bail and his wife died when Vader blew up Alderaan, and Leia was not "very young" at that point in time. So, I get the feeling that Leia knows she was adopted.

Ah, but Leia never knew she was adopted. And we know Bail died by the Death Star blast, so Bail's wife (never mentioned in any of the stories) likely dies in the next few years.
Now, she could have searched her feelings to discover the truth, but she didn't know she had those powers (her own admission to Luke). That is how you can figure that she didn't know she was adopted. If she knew, there could always be a glimmer of hope that she could command the Force.

LUKE
Leia... do you remember your mother? Your
real mother?
LEIA
Just a little bit. She died when I was very
young.
LUKE
What do you remember?
LEIA
Just...images, really. Feelings.
LUKE
Tell me.
LEIA
(a little surprised at his insistence)
She was very beautiful. Kind, but...sad.
(looks up) Why are you asking me all this?
The implication is that it is her real mother, ie Padme. Otherwise why would Luke ask, why would the lines even be included if not refering to their common mother?

I'm not saying she knew who her real parents were. I'm saying she was either told, or figured out, she was adopted.
Also, you don't have to know you have to the force to use it. In Episode I, little Anakin reveals that he can sometimes see things right before it happens, which is why he's such a good podracer.
Okay, I'm bailing on this conversation before it gets any dorkier.

ive looked around that database some and everything i can find hints that Bail's wife dies a few years after Ep3... but its not even said anywhere. just kinda hinted.
but leia is the only weak plot point in the original series and she was before they even made ep1.. i mean it was kinda a lame plot tiwst and wasnt really explained well to leia.
except r2-d2 flying
oh yea, and Bail dies with the planet.
**my prediction.***
bail remarries at some point in the TV series.
****************
trying to rail on a point on this topic is as g33ky (not dorky. that would be star trek or babylon-5) as defending it, but its all in fun so who cares?

I've been thinking about why I am such a hater of the prequels. They do have their good aspects, and Ewan makes a killer Obi-Wan, but the series jusf falls flat with me.
To me, the casting of Jake Lloyd doomed this series from the start. Imagine if the character had been introduced at the same age as Padme. A brooding James Dean type , rebel without a cause whose only claim to fame is his pod racing skills. He would have 3 films to establish the character of Anakin instead of 2 and this would make his fall in the 3rd that much more believable and tragic, to say nothing of the romance between him and Padme.
So much seemed to be thrown in to these films because it looked cool, but character development and the MAIN storyline (Anakin's fall) were hurt because of it.
They were OK. But they could have been so much better

It's not explained, but I'm sure the Jawas probably took off R2's rockets in the sand-crawler when they captured R2 and 3P0 in Episode IV.
Luke never bothered to find new astro-droid rockets.
